It's a pome called "On reading Moby Dick".

I grew tired with my riffle through the waffle and the piffle so I put on Lonnie Donegan and listened to some skiffle.

I thank you.

Yes, very helpful, thank you.

But what sort of animal is a pome? Mammal, fish, reptile, of marsupial?

The Pooka had one club foot (cf bramble patches & quality Donegal), whereas Conor is in danger of becoming a many-footed player.

I'd like to see him here next season. And, since the batteries in my car keys are getting on, his wife's pouch would be a handy place to keep them warm while I'm smoking Vequeros outside the 'Bird pre-match.

pome
pəʊm/
noun
BOTANY

  1. a fruit consisting of a fleshy enlarged receptacle and a tough central core containing the seeds, e.g. an apple, pear, or quince.

Also (ironically, given how they themselves refer to we Brits as pommes) P.O.M.E. is an acronym given to convicts sent to Australia as Prisoners Of Mother England.

So this talk of marsupials wasn't many miles off target.
