Away Match Day Thread 02/10/2021 L1: Sheffield Wednesday v OUFC

Bit of an epic. Have no idea still how Henry managed to score nor how Stevens managed to save that 70 yard effort from the wee Scots laddie. Wednesday fans incredibly quiet; they seemed to be in shell shock that we dealt with them so comfortably. Home fans we spoke to after the game complimentary and fair about our performance.. Nice people.

Kane the man. Great positional awareness, canny passing, world class shithousery.

Forde and Long particularly admirable. Shodipo, Dunkley and Johnson clearly look like they had their best days wearing yellow. Shodipo particularly inept.

Excellent set up and great tactics today . Well done Robinson. Partly damaged by his increasing ability to blow vast quantities of hot air over the airwaves. Beginning to zone out, gets rather boring on occasion.

Anyway...

Should one of our players refuse the covid jab, get infected, have long term adverse consequences that lead to a 10% reduction in his 'quality' but a 70% reduction in his market value would the club have a case of gross misconduct? A thought.

Did you say anything to his face?

Yes I told him to shut up. We were on a tram full of mostly SWFC fans and he was gobbing off excessively calling them all sorts of names. A Wednesday fan told him to wind his neck in and luckily he did.

For a game we scraped a 93 minute winner and a 95 minute wonder save , he was taunting them like we won 6-0.

Some nuggets ..

We were wasting time from the 20th minute?

“I wasn’t at the game today, but it sounds to me, and a lot of my other mates who weren’t at the game today either, as if little Oxford were wasting time from the 20th minute because they got a fluke goal against the biggest team in L1”.

Bless.

Having said that, I will say that I met a couple of really nice Owls fans at the Sheffield Tap, who then took me up to the fantastic Barracks Arms which is about a 20 minute walk from Hillsborough. And wouldn’t let me pay for the beer either.

Now that is a lovely photo

Two or three top saves from Jack at Hillsborough - the save from Barry Bannan’s 35 yard missile at the death where the ball
moved all over the place was out of the top drawer.

I’m a bit perplexed about all this talk of our ‘time-wasting’. Other than Stevens and his knee, our subs making rather slow exits and a few instances of taking longer over throw ins we were hardly cynically refusing to play the game. I’ve seen SO many teams do SO much worse at our place over the years. To me it felt like a composed away performance.

They’re going to be in for a shock when they get to the worst of Steve Evans/Gareth Ainsworth teams if they think we were that bad…

100 %.in over 30 years of watching us I’ve never known us to be a time wasting team in fact I’ve always seen us as too nice over the years.
