General Stadium Disrepair

I think we can all agree that the cleanliness and facilities at the stadium are disgusting and have been for some time. But with little to no use for 18 months and the need for heightened hygiene, it has become a much bigger problem.

Unfortunately the situation is out of the club's direct control, and blaming any individual isn't fair our helpful. I spoke with Andy Taylor and how we could do a "DIY SOS" type day where we get volunteers and local trades people in to give the place a makeover. I'd happily take the kids up with soapy water and a sponge to do the seats whilst power hosing down the toilets! But the terms of the maintenance licence simply don't allow it.

We have a shitty stadium and a shitty contract, and the sooner we get out of both, the better! The club were angry and embarrassed by the experience on Saturday, and had been given assurances that cleaning had taken place. Andy and N McW have been working to get this fixed, and if nothing else I'd hope that soap, paper towels and hand sanitiser is widely available tonight.

However, I'll also be taking my own hand sanitiser and a pack of wipes to give my seat a proper clean. We shouldn't have to, but I can take personal responsibility for my hygiene and I'd encourage others to do the same.
I get the club would have been angry but why didn't they check the standard before match day? It wouldn't have taken long for Stadco to at the very least put in soap and paper towels.
I'm not having a dig at the club as they're continually shafted but that suggests someone should have been on this in advance.

On the catering thread it was posted that Farrs are also now responsible for the stadium cleaning... is that correct?

If so, then why on earth should volunteers be going in to do a job that an independent company must be getting paid to do?

Apologies if it is not Farrs, but if it is then maybe they can reply as they do in the catering thread.

So you’re saying I am a liar?? I definitely used the toilet and I definitely washed my hands with soap and paper towels!! I have no reason to lie about it, I am as disappointed in the state of the stadium as the next person, but I am not going to say there was no soap etc just to complain when there was these facilities!

I'm not saying that you're a liar any more than (I hope) you are saying I am.

I am saying that you were wrong in assuming that the facilities you experienced using were available to all.

We know we've got a shitty contract and a crap stadium and the club officials have a very difficult task, I asked about a group of us doing it and got the same answer. But I think the club are allowed into the stadium around midday, so why given all of the above didn't someone from the club have a look!!! And didn't we train there last week and still no one checked!!! Accepting assurances from the Kassam gang really! Would you?

Well many of us have emailed the club and copied in M Doyle at the Kassam stadium so we are asking at a high level. M Doyle told us the club would be making a statement after he had met the club on Monday, so we asked so we will see what it's like tonight.
Mr M Doyle the lovely, snappy, rude stadium manager we know and love.

He knows the stadium like the back of his hand he claims, he also refers to it as "his stadium".

He knows it so well he didn't know that wire had been professionally installed for hanging flags at the back of the East and North Stand years and years ago.

Despite years of hanging flags on it, he said that was impossible, he'd have known if it was there, and that we must remove it immediately (despite it being drilled into the back of the stands).

When his delusion was met by some chuckles he proceeded to shout and scream and told everyone to get out of his stadium. Good luck to anyone who still has to deal with him...

Led to believe that some form of cleaning has taken palace since Saturday with cleaning taking place yesterday and today.

So hopefully an improvement tonight is seen by the fans.

I believe the club now have the contract for catering too so hopefully that and along with Farrs we see an improvement in most areas.

You are right, I perhaps did assume that the facilities that were available to me, we’re in fact available to everyone, However it was a sweeping statement that I was replying too because like me, you, Essex & buzzer couldn’t know if the facilities that were not available to you, we’re not available in other parts of the ground, so I think that we all stand corrected! I will check my facts in future before going off half cocked!

Well I've decided if the gents north Stand Toilets are still in the same state, I am going to identify as female for the evening and use the ladies.
Joking aside, this is a real issue that will have to be addressed in the very near future. The LGBTQ+ community have rights along with everybody else. It is something that has already been discussed by the group working to set up the Supporters' Panel. As a heads up to anybody who feels they are able to speak out on behalf of the LGBTQ+ community and is an OUFC fan, candidates will be sought after soon to stand for the Panel.

I'll see how I feel about that after tonight, I might have to go for the catering option

Well if you don’t ask you don’t get!! Maybe they could or couldn’t do something, but you definitely won’t get anything done if you don’t ask!!

Well, plenty of e-mails have now been sent so no longer is it a case of being unaware of the dire situation.

Now that we have asked, by your reckoning, I hope to see everything fully cleansed and plenty of soap and paper towels to go round for the duration of the game.

I totally agree with you! The place is a sham, I would personally like to see hand driers installed, eliminating the need for paper towels, I would also like hot water and lots of soap! In have emailed so I have asked. But I won’t be holding my breath, all I can say is that when I used the toilets there was soap, and towels.
