If we can get mcguane and Brannigan scoring they could easily have a partnership of 20 then Henry chipping in with some get Sykes scoring when he comes off the bench along with agyei we’ve got a lot of goals in this team just needs the confidence to get them

It's not just the midfield scoring, but where they score from. A couple of seasons ago, Cam looked dangerous from the edge of the box which meant that the defence had to get out to close him down leaving space behind. Last year, not only did we not score, we barely looked like doing so. That allowed the defence to sit in and watch us play the ball from one side to another before giving Taylor a near on impossible ball to attack.

I'd like to see Brannagan and McGuane regularly hitting the target from 20 yards, and either chipping in with goals or giving Taylor and others tap ins on anything coming back from the keeper. Also Whyte, Holland and others regularly bending it inside of the far post when coming off the wing. Shodipo, Agyei and Fosu all scored well from these areas.

Let’s not forget Henry chipped in with a lot of goals for 2 consecutive seasons

So, will Whyte, Holland and Williams score more goals this season than Shodipo, Barker and Lee did last season?

The three scored 20 goals between them which is a very decent return and not easy to repeat.

But we not only have Whyte, Holland and Williams, but also Bodin and Cooper who will likely contribute too.

I would expect Winnall to offer far more, and can see him and Taylor beating their 23 goals from last season.

Our midfield will struggle to score fewer, and hopefully Brannagan, McGuane and Sykes will hit double figures between them.

It will be interesting to see how our defence matches up with the goal scoring. Long, Moore, Atkinson and Ruffels got 20 between them. Seddon looks like he'll get a few, and Thorniley is smaller but should hopefully match Atkinsons couple.

I reckon there's another dozen or more goals in this squad, and if we concede a dozen fewer then we should be right in the mix.

The question is Scotchers is there going to be another defender in before Saturday

I could see us scoring more but see nothing to suggest that we will concede fewer?
Villa allegedly put another offer in for Stevens recently and if he went, I reckon we could concede more.
Or are Thorniley and Seddon better defensively than Atkinson and Ruffels?

We scored something like 92 goals last season, we don’t need to score more . We need to concede a bit less and i hope someone else is coming in.

I think that defensively alone then Seddon is better than Ruffels and Thorniley better than Atkinson. We may lose some of the goal scoring from Ruffels and the marauding runs from Atkinson, but as a defensive unit I think we're more solid.

IF Stevens goes, and £100m buys you a lot of players, then we will have the kind of money that could pick up the very best keepers in league 1 or 2, or some top class PL loanees. Stevens is great, and will only get better. I hope he stays, but I think that there are several others out there to strengthen us further if he does go.

I don't think Eggy has guessed any of the player signings so far this preseason so I wouldn't hold your breathe.
Spoke of our real interest in Nathan Holland in January and how he was one we were pursuing this summer. Also how Gavin Whyte had tweeted about Oxford back in June and how I expected his return. Beyond that I've only spoken of those we are looking at rather than any nailed on signings, so you're right that Tomlinson, Boyle, Ogilvie, Kerr and others haven't come through, but all were looked at (some more than others!).

I'm more than happy that @UTO has the inside info, I look forward to hearing these rumours as much as anyone. I post for conversation, and if I get it wrong it doesn't bother me as much as it seems to bother others.

We scored 77 in the league. Peterborough scored 83 (but conceded 10 fewer).
I agree that we need to concede fewer. That will depend I guess on how good the 2 new defenders are , whether we have adequate cover and avoid injuries and whether Gorrin is back to his best.
From what I see in the squad we look better than last season going forwards but I am.not sure about defensively.

How do you know that Seddon (an attacking full back) and Thorniley (not one of Blackpool’s starting centre backs) will be stronger than Ruffels and Atkinson defensively? It’s not an impossible task but at the same time there is not a massive amount of evidence to suggest that. We look to have just got back to where we were last season unless McNally turns out to be a bit good.
The defensive side of the game will never be Robinsons strength.

I think that's where you often let yourself down, you're not very consistent especially once a player moves on. How on earth you conclude Thornley is better than Atkinson i'll never know and if that was the case someone needs a word with the Brizzie recruitment team.

Atkinson was the best to wear a yellow shirt since Matt Elliott and is an outstanding player.

Part of the issue defensively was that we struggled when pressed, and couldn't manage to hit options with long clearance balls.

I think improving the attacking options will actually help us defensively. Not that we don't need a couple more defensive players in the squad, but I think better quality going forward plays its part in both GF/GA sections of the table.

Atkinson is a good player, I'm not saying he isn't. But whilst he dealt with everything in the air and was solid in the tackle, his weakness was positionally at times and having players run through him. From what I've seen, Thorniley looks the more solid (if less exciting) defender.

I really don't think there will be a lot in it between Thorniley and Atkinson. They can both allow a team to attack in different ways...Atkinson with his runs forward and Thorniley with his long diagonal passes. Thorniley looks a couple of inches shorter though so we'll also lose out on Atkinson's aerial threat.

I'm also convinced Seddon will be better than Ruffels. He looks faster and a better crosser of the ball. I loved Josh but he did get roasted a lot by wingers and his crossing was poor. He was always a converted left back to me and it did show at times. We lose out on his goals though of course!
