Why are you so keen to big up this new player Portsmouth have signed it has nothing to do with us (oufc) if we had signed the same player no doubt he’s crap waste of a place but Portsmouth sign a unknown player and he could be the next roofe

Because I am on 20%, and £100 a goal. No, to be honest I didn't realised I had bigged up a pompey player, simply used him as an example of a player bought by a club that doesn't seem to pull up trees, or be a stand out player.
Then comparing him to Roofe, sitting in the reserves, after the odd loan, who also hadn't been pulling up trees, but became a top player.
If someone sees that as bigging up a pompey player then they've got too much time on their hands.

Some players I have seen or heard Oxford fans describe as shite (or similar):

Lundstram
Roofe
Skarz
Maguire
Rothwell

I also recall standing in front of a guy at a game who spent 5 minutes moaning how it was a massive mistake that we'd let Harry Worley go. Someone else spent ages talking up Deane Smalley.

Sometimes fan opinions are not correct.

I heard some Oxford fans slag off Trevor Hebberd, so if he got some I feel sorry for the mere mortals who have played for us.

You take a risk every time you sign a player
Some come off some don’t, one example I would give is Mowatt
Never really turned up for us thought he was a good worker and steady but wouldn’t put him in an outstanding midfielder for OUFC bracket at that time
And yet there he is in the Championship doing an excellent job
Just didn’t work out for us at the time
Most of the signings recently have paid off
Dickie, Atkinson, Whyte yet when they signed we were all sayin Who? Surely there are better known players out there
So in essence let’s give all players a chance.
Pompey may have come up with a gem or they may not, time will tell

Believe me, you wouldn't want to. A lot of the guys I work with are worse than kids sometimes. Mind you there are also those, the majority that really do want to turn things around, being first timers, and you do tend to go above and beyond to help them, some not even being able to read and write at all. Sometimes their success is reward enough.
