We are also much much weaker at present with a severe lack of goals
I'm not so sure about that. The way we play involves having a lot of talented attacking players who are capable of finishing off team moves, rather than relying on two or three individuals. I'd hope that Shodipo's goals would be made up by Williams getting five or six and Dan stepping up to get half a dozen more than last season. But an additional livewire attacker wouldn't go amiss.

The loss of goals from Mide, Ruffs and Lee is a bit of a worry. History suggests Williams and Bodin won't match the goal productivity of Mide and Lee, although history often means little in football. No doubt we'll be looking at a young, dynamic, attacking winger when the loans start getting looked at. I'd hope we're prioritising the full back position and the CB position before another winger, which the current rumours suggests we are, but I don't think GUK is inherently wrong in saying we've lost a lot of goals and not yet replaced them with players that on paper look like they can match the return. 25 league goals gone from the players who have left isn't insignificant.

KR has already said on ifollow he wants a left centre back & 2 left backs & maybe right back cover for Long so i wouldn’t panic just yet.
You have to love the July panic threads!!! I am sure if someone had the time to trawl previous seasons transfer threads this exact time of year is when panic erupts. My personal take is that we are looking much higher up the pyramid and waiting for squads to settle back down after Euros which should mean we are looking at quality over quantity.

Any news re a contract extension for Moore? If we want stability in defence, he needs to be offered a new 2 year deal - at least!
It's not being offered a deal that is the issue.
I suspect that he is looking to play in the Championship next season

Exactly. Maybe he has been offered a deal, and he’s turned it down? Surely the club have addressed his contract situation?

If that is the case then the club should offer him a deal with a release clause that can be activated next summer if we don’t go up. Gives us a bit of security of getting something for him if we don’t go up instead of him going for nothing. It’s a win win for both parties.

Agents frequently advise players of value to run down contracts. They can then get both the player and agent himself a nice signing on fee as the new club do not need to pay a transfer fee. Agents are often most interested in what’s best for themselves.

The last season that Bodin was in League One - he'd scored 9 league goals by the end of December (21 appearances) and was sold to Preston in the January window. Williams got 5 last season. So using history actually puts their output quite close to that of Mide and Lee albeit the number of appearances versus goals are the other way round. For comparison, Mide got 10 league goals in the full season (plus a play-off goal) and Lee got 6 in 18 appearances after January.

In terms of goals, their is a bit of pressure on Brannagan, Sykes, Henry to up their return.
8 goals from 100 appearances between them last season and 7 of those were Henry.

What do we do if Moore won't sign an extension?
Sell him now so at least we get something for him ?
Be awful I know but do we risk trying to gain promotion with him but lose him for free at the end of the season ?

We can’t sell him now. We’ve already lost the left side of the defence from last season losing another would be a disaster you are essentially then building a entirely new back line. Would rather lose him for free next season.

Yeah I've been a big supporter of the model but I'm not sure we can really sell him now unless a ridiculously high bid comes in...

I would suspect that the club have offered him exactly this.
The problem is he doesn't have to sign anything.
Dickie signed a contract which allowed us to sell him after a year. If Moore wants to simply run down his contract he will get more money in a years time.
So it could be we sell him now or let him run down his contract (lets hope not)

Except it's not, for Moore. His options will be far broader as a free agent than with a minimum non-negotiable fee against his name that's covered in legal conditions. He actually gains very little by signing an extension besides whatever pay rise we can afford to persuade him to stay.

He's in an excellent position as a player right now, he has all the leverage. He can play out this year knowing whoever wants him next summer can have him, he's answerable to nobody. On the other hand if nobody wants him, we'll still be there with a bumper contract for him.

If anyone is in his position, you sit tight.

I really , sadly , think if that is the case we sell him for a million or so and actively bring in another centre back who is experienced, quality and on a 3 year deal .
I dont want this to happen btw
