The Priory

There's also the Buildings at risk register whist the then English Heritage (now Historic England) declined to place the Priory on in 2014 or 5 because they were confident a deal had been [correction] would be done between OCC and the lessee.

The answer to all the problems was published yesterday on another thread and repeated here for transparency and clarity. Please note that this post appears here within 48 hours of appearing on the earlier one!

"Had a private conversation with someone ITK about 48 hours ago. All seemed perfectly feasible so I will put the salient points up for your perusal.

You heard it here first.

Massive further investment incoming.

Fir oakA donates the burnt out (shortly?) shell of the Priory to OUFC as foundations for the new 4th Stand. Planning permission to be granted only if the vacant lot is then used as a new hotel.
In a 50 year project, OCC in partnership with Fir oakA, commence newbuild of 50,000 homes on local Green/brown Field sites including the short lived OUFC training facility and the overflow car park off Grenoble road. The new build project includes a total of 4 affordable houses at around 350k each at a build rate of 1 per year starting 2064. 1 affordable at each corner of the Kashstad. A travellers site to be constructed behind the east stand.
Consequently, with all these improvements to club and stadium Ground Rent is to be substantially revised upwards starting 2018 .

Trust me.?"

So there you have it. I will be at the game on Sunday, Jerome.....

The statement from JPPC chartered town planners, on behalf of Firoka, said: “For the avoidance of doubt, our client has never agreed to the improvements to Minchery Farm requested "may be literally true but agreement was implicit in carrying out the work with the requirement in it.

Exactly! By building the hotel Firoka accepted the condition in the original application and this is further supported by the fact they applied to have it varied in 2015.

Please can those living in the Oxford City Council area (especially Littlemore Ward) lobby their Councillors to have this application called in to the East Area Planning Committee to decide (as opposed to a Planning Officer making the decision). The benefit of doing this is that members of the public can attend the meeting and watch democracy in action. Also Oxvox (for example - should they wish to do so) could speak at the meeting making the point that we, as supporters, have been deprived of the most convenient pub to the stadium for several years as a result of Firoka's action (or in-action). I'd be interested to hear Oxvox's current view on this application.

As I've said previously, the City Council should simply withdraw the hotel's operating license immediately until the Priory is restored and functioning. It would take real balls for them to do this but at least it would show they are not running scared of FK as we all suspect they are!

By the way the last date to comment on the application is 18 April.

Interesting piece in the Oxford Drinker (local CAMRA publication). Anyone seen anything of said Oxford Mail campaign?

Quick bump as the last day for comments is tomorrow. Not much so far but Littlemore Parish Council and Oxford Architectural and History Society have objected. Expected Decision Level box is blank so we don't know if the Planning Officer will make the decision or if it will go to the East Area Planning Committee to decide. The latter is preferable as those who wish to do so (Sarge?) Can attend the meeting and watch democracy in action. Lobbying City Councillors is probably the best way to get this called in to Committee.

How do we comment?

Oxford City Council website. Click through to Planning and then on to view and comment on applications. Search using "Priory" and it should be the first applications. Click on it then you should see where to comment.

PM me if you are struggling.

Yep, anyone can comment and, as OUFC supporters, we certainly have a vested interest in seeing the Priory open and quenching thirst again.

Anymore wanting to comment? ....follow the link, then click on 'documents' fill in the required areas, then add your comment..... think its open for comments until midnight tonight.

This is a cause that should be at the top of the trusts list. The fact that the Priory is so loved by the supporters and the trust is the “supporters” voice, pressure on Kassam to bring the pub back into use should be a priority. Maybe the new chairman will make this his/her goal to achieve. The priory is I believe more important to the membership than the stadium ownership. Just my thoughts Dave, get it done ;);)

Maybe a little OTT but worth saying to reinforce the argument for enforcing the original planning permission.
As a pub, the Priory is never going to be financially viable. (ok, if another housing estate was built opposite and the sewage works removed, maybe)
As an historical building, grade 2* listed, it must be maintained to a minimum standing to comply and that, as it stands, is not the case. FK has manipulated so much over the years and got away with it all, time to say enough.

If you are a member of 'the trust' then of course you can and should contact them with that opinion or bring it up at the next meeting. I suspect many would share the view that it is a really important issue to the supporters and a much missed asset to match day enjoyment but to claim it is more important than the stadium frankly detracts from the topic and makes your post sound like yet another attempt to further your slightly confusing agenda. Are you actually saying that you feel 'the trust' (I assume you are referring to OxVox) should shunt aside all other issues to prioritise The Priory? Would you be happy that we drifted into a position in which we had no option but to renew at the same rate for the Kassam as long as you were able to enjoy it all from the comfort of the local pub? It seems to me that action is being taken by OxVox with regards to The Priory and also some fantastic leg work by @PC and @Sarge and others that you could get involved in if the point of your post really is to help? Have you tried?

Mmm not sure about that. What has happened to the Priory is a disgrace and the Council have been as complicit as our friend Mr Kassam.

Whether the Priory will ever be a drinking establishment again, I would personally doubt due to the finances and Kassam's general attitude.
