Also heard that Mark Sykes is definitely looking to leave. At least 3 clubs have enquired and he will be allowed to talk to them. The £300k price that was suggested by Ipswich is in the right ball park, but it will almost certainly be undisclosed and will likely depend on potential sell ons etc. As with players coming in, Robinson is keen to see players leave early too, and we might see something happen before the club fly out on the preseason tour.
Why do you think he wants to leave? Seems odd to want to leave a club that gave you your professional footballing opportunity, especially one that has made the play-offs twice in the last 2 seasons.

He’s not really a regular though and I bet he’s heard of the money others can earn. Seems a confident lad.

Because he'll likely pick up a 3 year contract elsewhere that'll give him more security than the 12 months he has left. Also, he has been kept on to be a squad player rather than expecting regular starts so there are immediate football reasons too.

So basically we aren’t that bothered about him?

If we can get a fee for someone likely to feature from the bench only then we'll take it. There are several more options that will hopefully offer more so I'm not sure we'll be too upset to see him leave.
I’m not sure you’re right.
Sykes was our best midfielder during our terrific run- in. By quite a distance.

Somewhere along the line we have to upgrade if we are going to achieve promotion. Sykes, like it or not, has been a central part of a team that has failed in two successive play off campaigns. It’s not just him, there may well be one or two other positions we need to freshen up too. I think he is just a bit on the periphery of properly nailing down a place and I’d be happy for us to get a decent fee and move him on.

He had a couple of good games towards the end I agree, but still didn't really produce anything of note. The rest of the season he had the odd good few minutes, but never at all influenced games.
Get £300 for him asap.

He also just saw us as a stepping stone to the Championship!! Which he made quite clear in a very early interview that he gave.

That's rather careless don't you think?

Odd that this has been allowed into the public domain but not the other 3, perhaps another chapter/s of couldn't stand in his way further down the line

There's more to this than meets the eye. From our, unusual, vantage point low down in the North stand away section for the Blackpool game, we saw how passionate Sykes was about playing. At 3-0 down he was still a desire to get back in the game. His exasperation with his team mates was also clear to see. I still believe that there is more to come from Mark Sykes and disposing of him now would be a mistake.
As I said, more to this than meets the eye.

Well maybe if he hadn’t missed when clean through his team mates would have had more to play for ! He has struggled ever since he swapped to play for the republic I think he is getting bad advise from someone, I don’t think he would be hard to replace

For me Sykes is one of those 50/50 players. I wouldn't be unhappy if he stayed (he is a known quantity, works hard and there is an excellent footballer in there that we haven't quite seen yet) or if he went (very inconsistent, awful in front of goal and that excellent footballer may never emerge).

Will the takeover have any impact on Sykes' future? Could potentially lead to a competitive contract offer, less need to sell etc. As others have said, I'd take 300k for him, especially considering he's got one year left.

Just remind me who is that player that often breaks up play with interceptions / sets up / keeps attacks going when opposition break from our set pieces ?

A vital part of the game that goes unnoticed

The same player who can take 2/3 opponents out of the game with one superb bit of skill

The same player who links up well with Long, Henry, Agyei down the right hand side
