Current Player #18 Marcus McGuane

I know everyone is pissed off right now, and I sit at completely opposite end of the spectrum, but the negativity on here is draining at times.

Marcus McGuane is a very good league one player with the potential to go much higher and would be an excellent signing that shows real intent. The fact that this could be completed in April rather than August is also a sign that we're "getting our business done early" which so many have been screaming out for.

It's insane to say that one thigh injury makes him injury prone or a crock. It's football, players get injured! He's not the messiah, nobody has claimed that he is. But a midfield with Brannagan, Gorrin, McGuane, Leon Chambers-Parillon and possibly Sean Clare is looking good.

There's plenty to moan about, but Marcus McGuane ain't one of them!
The criticism in the last 2 to 3 transfer windows (based on our starts legitimate concerns) has been that the transfers have been too late.
We have to start better next season and getting business done earlier has got to be positive surely?
I also am.not quite sure how a thigh injury writes him off as a potential signing, but I am sure that somebody far better qualified than me will be able to explain the risks.

Branagan Gorrin Henry and Mcguane is a top league one midfield. If all had stayed fit and in form we’d be in the playoff places now, I’m sure, though im not absolving Karl of blame for our disappointing end of season

Not sure about Gorrin, The other three when in form definitely.

Stop talking sense mate.

Agree with the comments about the quality of McGuane, one thing I would say is let's wait until it's actually done, Karl has form for speaking in public when the situation in private really doesn't warrant said comments. If he gets it done, hat off to him

He looks like a pretty decent league one midfielder and would be an improvement on what we have.

However, minister for defence, I put it to you that Mr Robinson is easily blinded by stardust cannot be trusted and the club must do everything in it's power to prevent the purchase of yet another player prone to injury. At a minimum that means having a real doctor (not Karl's brother-in-law the horse doctor from Crosby) check that this isn't the sign of a weakness that's liable to recur. It would be insane to not do proper due diligence just because he's the one bright light of Mr Robinson's recruitment this season (apart from Sean Clare, with whom Burton Albion seem pretty happy).

Thought it was his knee that was the issue, uncovered in scans as part of his thigh after breaking down in training?
Whatever it is or was, due diligence absolutely required, there's only one bed available in the physio room and Winnall is here for another year...

The silliest part of all this is that the "news" has been announced before anybody has signed anything.
Just another one of KR's fillips to gloss over another losing game.

The silliest part is desperately trying to find a negative in all of this. The fact that it was openly discussed before the Accrington game kind of pisses on your point!

Here we go again. Would be a great signing, but keep quiet until the deal is done. Surely, the window doesn't open until June or July. Why alert other teams to his promise?
That's right. I know that Kloop is a big fan of Radio Oxford, Guardiola subscribes to the Oxford Mail and Zidedine Zidane posts on here under the pseudonym @greatunclekip

Don't be ridiculous. We lost at Sunderland. Then again to Accrington.
Important here is that the negotiations should have been kept confidential until the paperwork had been signed and sealed.

I cannot believe some of you are indifferent about us signing Marcus Maguane!

He is a Rolls Royce of a player and plays in a position that we have nobody else to fill. He is the sort of player that you rarely see at League One level, and reminds me of a slightly stronger Shandon Baptiste. His ball retention and movement is excellent and he adapted very well to League One football once he'd figured it out after the first few games. He'd be a very bankable asset too, the right age and CV, and to my mind is the sort of player you build a team around. I'd be both envious and pissed off if he went to a Peterborough or Portsmouth instead of us.
If he's fit, I'd certainly like to see him sign for us - I often find myself saying during games at the moment "we could do with McGuane here", but let's be realistic, it's all potential at the moment. He didn't quite have the impact Baptiste was having before he left and I felt he was just beginning to get a grip on things when injury struck - we've yet to really see what a player he might be, but hopefully will.

Absolutely no benefit in KR talking about this before it's done and dusted.

If it all goes through then crow about it afterwards, if it now doesn't happen it's another stick to beat him with about talking out of turn.

Or, if it doesn't, will he again say it shows the calibre of player they are aiming for (but don't get).

Gorrin was excellent last season and for a part of this season.
What is it about writing players off if they have a bit of poor form presumably in this case due in part to illness?

Gorrin was surrounded by a better performing midfield last year. This year the only excellent he has been is giving away fouls and passing backwards. Now I take in to an account he has a health issue that no one seems to know what it is except Karl. But I would say is we need someone to challenge for Gorrins place next year, a proper CDM and Karl not trying to adapt someone into that position.

Prone to injury? One relatively serious injury doesn’t make him injury prone, does it!? Other than his injury with us, in the last 3 years he has been out for a grand total of 50 days due to a muscle strain and a hamstring injury. Not exactly George Thorne..

I don't know. It would make sense to have advice that he's not prone to injury.

It was mentioned before the game was played.
