Potential New Ground

agree but can’t see it happening in the city centre unfortunately

No chance of a development there imo.

It makes sense to build it there except if you are from the council or one of the unis, so for that reason it won't be build there. Shame though would of been a great asset for Oxford, could of build a 20k capacity with a retractable roof, that way could of been used for other events like concerts, shows all year round.

I guess traffic would be the issue with a town centre ground, there's no way the council wants to attract more cars in

given that the council said that the JR could only go ahead with building a multi-story car park if it didn't increase the number of parking spaces on site (surely the only point of building a multi-story car park) I can't see them allowing serious car parking in the city (unless it is linked to their own white elephant).

To build in the city centre would be good for green credentials in my opinion. You could actually provide very little parking and improve and encourage use of public transport.

I can't see a stadium ever existing in the town centre, I thought Oxpens was part of the flood plain?

Oxpens is the absolute dream location for a new stadium, it would be perfect, but sadly we all know it will only remain a dream. Not a chance in hell of that one ever happening!

Would be great, with regard to traffic problems, you only have to look at the never ending holdups on Botley Road as it is without thousands coming in off the bypass on a match day. Sorry, as some of you have already said, just a dream. Would be interesting to know where everyone parks to go to Newcastle, Am i right in thinking they have a Metro there, i went on the coach so not sure.

Loads of city centre football grounds, let’s be honest the traffic problems in London make Oxford look non existent, with clubs who get much bigger crowds than we do. How do all those clubs/fans cope?

It won’t be in OxPens unfortunately, although that’s the ideal location, not for traffic reasons but because the university and city council don’t want oiks there.

A brand new stadium/leisure facilities in the city centre alongside improved train/bus/public transport infrastructure in the rest of the county would be the best thing to happen in Oxfordshire for donkeys years but we are ruled by unambitious idiots who just want to cosy up to the colleges and live of the back of the achievements of people hundreds of years ago.

You don`t need a massive footprint for a new ground and it can be in a City as long as it is connected to public transport.
Here in sunny Leicester we manage fine with two large capacity grounds although they can`t both play at home on the same day as that would create grid lock as many Tigers fans are in the Shire and travel in.
One of these, on GR or the Oxpens...... sorted.

The thing is no one would drive to football in London as they have good public transport and are accustomed to using it. Oxford also has really narrow roads on the way in to the city. It’s nothing to do with the university

The colleges own a lot of the city centre and have a massive say in what goes on, always have. I did say about building better public transport alongside the ground, that’s something the city/county needs anyway, its only since moving away that I have realised just how poor public transport is in the county.
