Current Player #13 Simon Eastwood

Don’t see why we wouldn’t be honest and say “if you’re settled and happy to stay but be our number two, here are our (reduced) terms.” He’s a grown up and knows how things work.
Nah, sounds a bit like splitting up with a girlfriend but still wanting to shag her sometimes. But if there was a coaching element plus backup and cup goalie it could work.

Jack has been remarkable since he replaced Simon. This will not have gone unnoticed by clubs higher up the pyramid and I will not be surprised to see Jack get snapped up over the summer for good money that the board hardly expected before the start of this season. SE will likely be back between the sticks in August as our No. 1.

Nope!

Reading some of your responses proves a total lack of business acumen where sentiment rules
Down fall of many a good company
SE must be on top dollar. Paying that as a back up is madness.
Plus God forbid accepting he may become No1 if Stevens left.
He ain't going to improve from his early season displays. As you get older your performances do deteriate.
Do i need to replay goals conceded thus year?

Same applies to Hall though I suspect you sentimental people will offer him another year as back up
A joke!

Football is all about sentiment. It’s nothing but sentiment! Otherwise why would anyone care what a bunch of mercenaries from all round the country, wearing a garish shirt covered in commercial messages, do? Trying to come over as a tough business minded guy is missing the whole point of the sport for a fan.

Agree. I know he made many mistakes in the play off final and the start of this season it obviously affected him , Before that though he won us alot of games and was one of the best keepers in this league.

If terns are what both the club and Eastwood are happy with
, then why not. We won't get another number 2 with his experience that's for sure.

If the price is right for the club, then I’ve no issue whatsoever with him being the number 2 for the reasons mentioned in the thread.

The issue would be him remaining and still being on anything near to his present wage which is rumoured to be one the best at the club.

We don’t want another Hall situation.

What an incredibly mean spirited statement about a terrific servant to OUFC. I don't know what profession you enjoy, but I hope your bosses exercise a little more sentiment than you seem prepared to exercise in the event that your performance deteriorates.
There are a number of examples of this - not just Easty but James Henry has also had some very unfair comments - and of course the classic but far from classy description of Mide Shodipo as the "QPR Turd" - some people are genuinely nasty at times

In my personal opinion I think a clean break is better for all concerned, but if the management team think differently and the financial part fits we will have to bow to their better judgement. Eastwood hasn't been at all bad in the few cup games he's had, despite the game being a lot slower with him at the back. I could think of a lot worse back-up keepers we've had over the years.

No championship club will be buying Jack and making him number one next season and I’d like to think he’s sensible enough to know he needs at least another full season as number 1 before considering a step up

Ah, but when a football agent, not necessarily your own, tells tales of milk & honey and green, green grass as far as the eye can see.......

Who is suggesting that the club will pay 'top dollar 'with a new contract?
I agree that it would be daft paying a similar amount for a new contract, but suspect that it will be less or coaching is included

Isn't the question there why we would need more GK coaching? WB seems to be doing a perfectly good job so, unless he is off to pastures new, do we need two senior GK coaches?

Well if she’s fine with that, wants to as well and it’s consensual then why not!

It seems strange if Eastwood was willing to stay on as backup on a reduced, reasonable wage to be like ‘no, no, Simon, we can’t do that, you must leave!’

Don't think so

its not rocket science in my opinion, both will start pre-season with managements asertion that either can start next season as No1 and both will have an even crack at achieving this in terms of pre-season game time. The interesting aspect will be who the actual squad number of 1 will be given to in the close season.

Stevens is already number one in all but shirt number. His quick distribution and high-line alone are so valuable, let alone the less-offensive elements of his play.

If Eastwood stays they almost certainly won’t take the 1 shirt off him. It’s one thing to bench him and for him to accept reduced terms (there’s no way in hell that he will conceivably be offered a new deal on first choice, POTY wages) but it’s quite another to strip him of his number. That is where sentiment (although I would argue it’s respect) would come in. You can see something similar in the way that Hall still holds the 7 shirt. It would be a bridge too far on the back of already losing his place and having to sign a different deal to then have his number taken away.

It would need a decent offer as I don’t think tiger or Robbo will want to lose him
