Part of the rationale for Clare going to Burton (given that there wasn't a space in the 22 man squad back then) was that he would be effectively be helping Oxford by being a force against the teams above us. Burton have gone onto beat Charlton and Hull, with Peterborough, Lincoln, Portsmouth, Donny and Accrington still to play - let's hope he scores against every one of them.....
I see, well, that is a cunning plan :)

Can't take the credit, those that do this for a living thought of it first - though I do recall Nathan framing the "helping us out" scenario in a pre-match interview at the time....

The question would be will he come back to us or will Robbo sell or free transfer
If you have the option to sell, why would you give away a player that has signed a multi-year deal? I think we will see Clare in an Oxford shirt again and quite rightly so. He’s not a defender; we all know that! Play him in his ACTUAL position and we have a quality player on our hands. Keep up with this square peg in a round hole shite and he isn’t going to be used to his potential...

That decision lies with KR!

So out if interest what IS his actual position? I am just a little perplexed that do many players can only play in 1 position
He is currently playing as a defensive midfield player. He has played there since he has been at Burton.
So I assume that you are suggesting that he comes back and challenges Gorrin? Or does JFH also not understand Clare's actual position?

Most players. However, I can name quite a few of our players that aren’t just shoved into, but can play very well in different positions. Of course he’s not going to play CDM and challenge Gorrin. Let’s be realistic. Clare seems best at CAM and RW. If he can come back to play just ahead of Brannagan and keep that defensive discipline that he has gained whilst at Burton then surely, as he’s an Oxford player, that can only be a good thing?

I am just interested in why you think that.
JFH who had done incredibly well at Burton, is playing as a DMF player since he signed him
Why won't that be his best position?
We have virtually never seen him at CAM and RW at Oxford. A couple of decent appearances there.
Maybe DMG will be his best position or maybe he will be a good utility player?

A quick perusal would maybe indicate he's not being used as defensively as Gorrin.

On Tuesday, Gorrin had 57 accurate passes, with over half of those (31) being in our own half of the pitch. SC had 36 accurate passes with two thirds of those (23) being in the oppositions half. He also played 14 long passes to Gorrin's 3.

Or maybe it just shows how much endless passing we had across the back four, and to Gorrin and back.

So obviously I haven't watched any Burton games since we stomped all over them.....but my sense from reading a few match reports, and looking at some stats, was that Clare has been playing more in the Brannagan role over their winning streak. Not as the out-and-out destroyer, but as the box-to-box, more creative type alongside.

If he's been playing well there - and the results and reports would suggest he has - then it's another indication of his versatility.

I hope KR gives him a chance next season, because he does seem like a talented footballer (he just doesn't have the defensive awareness or positioning to play RB).

Don`t think we saw enough of him outside of the RB spot and would also like to see him given a run further up the
pitch, from what i saw he has speed, fairly quick feet and the ability to play a fast pass, i think he could fit into a KR
team quite well.

Been wondering a bit about Ruffels this season, heard a couple of times that opposition scouts are targeting him as
the weak link in our back 4, think we are going to have to upgrade that position some time in the future, especially
if we were to go up, any takers for Ruffels as DM ? He has decent attributes + i like the fact he is quite tall and can
head a ball, my experience on FM2007 tells me this is a good thing...

Clare won't be playing this weekend as apparently he is suspended after accumulating 10 yellows. Doing well in central midfield according to one Burton fan on another forum.
