Friend of mines daughter and her friend were taken to yesterdays game...thier 2nd oufc game.....they arrived just before 12 midday as they were in the family stand my friends daughter and her friend were both excited about the advertised free OUFC scarves being given out in the family stand -apparently to kids, which was how the offer was implied in the advertising pre match......arriving just under an hour before kick off should have been ample time to be recipients of the generous offer of a free scarf for kids....turns out it wasn't. All gone. ....those tasked with distributing free scarves to kids, it seems decided to beddeck adults accompanying kids into the family stand....and in more than a few cases adults without kids too!!!......we're those distributing scarves to kids in the family stand/area at yesterday's game informed that the Give away scarves were for kids and not accompanying / or non kid accompanying adults? ......a welcome gesture aimed at kids, oufcs support of the future, by oufc which it seems (similar to DE well intentioned free tickets a season or two ago) that was hijacked by adults who should know better? Or was it left hand and right hand not properly and clearly communicating how the free scarves were intended to be distributed? ..... I advised my friend if she wasn't happy to contact both Mick Brown and Niall Mac ........... while it may seem a minor issue in the greater scheme , however young and impressionable kids, very early on in being weaned onto supporting their local team, hearing in the media that if they go to the match in family stand , they, kids are likely to get a free scarf, then to arrive around an hour before kickoff to find all 2000 give aways have already been given out, but around 2/3rds have gone ( to greedy adults).....what kind of impression does that leave on two young ins, one on her second OUFC game, the other at their first OUFC game. Certainly not the best of impressions that's for sure

In the East Stand, some people (adults who should know better) grabbed handfuls of the free flags for themselves. I saw one bloke putting at least 10 into his bag. Absolutely pathetic.

However, the North stand did look very good from our viewpoint. Lot of people and a lot of yellow. Shame on those adults who deprived the kids of a scarf. (everybody likes a freebie so only human nature to take if offered)

Would be good if the club can afford to do something similar again. Watching the Derby County game yesterday they had obviously distributed small flags to everyone, the teams arrival onto the pitch saw a mass off waving - very effective on the Sky cameras.

That's unbelievable. My 2 didn't get their flags either - I did say they weren't guaranteed as there were only 2,000 but that takes the mickey especially when the club said to leave some for others as well. I assume they were left in areas for people to help themselves?

I didn't see any as I came in, got to my seat and asked where the flags were (I thought they might have been tucked in/on some seats as in previous years) but was told they were downstairs where the programs are sold in boxes. So I wandered down again but there were none there, but a couple of people had a number of packets - unopened - in their hands and I saw one bloke put a *lot* into his bag. It does beggar belief really.

In the SSU I saw three stewards with both flags and scarves and not just the one either. Along with no programs to purchase not a good start.

I'd rather we as fans raised money to do these displays ourselves. The Ultras are more than happy to distribute and produce flags for the whole stadium, if fans donated more it would be easily possible. Relying on the club regularly is plastic support, displays should be funded and produced by fans. Obviously it's a nice gesture when they do it occasionally, and particularly great if they continue to offer freebies for the family stand.

A return to the displays like against Swindon would be superb.

Outside/inside family stand I'm informed ....(being in SSL myself)...There were people in OUFC tops/tracksuit s who had been distributing them (for about 40 mins till they'd run out)....info beforehand did allude that flags were for all, scarves were apparently for kids in the family stand.....of course when something is free there is always those who take advantage (and then some- like DE free tickets for schools etc a few seasons ago, which had a large amount of adults rocking up on freebies intended for kids!.. hey ho)

I went to a gig years ago where the band gave away a CD for the fans. Some people got there early, took as many as they could carry and sold them on eBay. Sadly, too many dishonest people out there

Fair play to the club for making an effort although I thought they would actually be OUFC scarves instead of just plain yellow ones.

Maybe time to resurrect, the 12th man fund for this very purpose.
The Ultras have a fund for it. Less than a dozen pay into it monthly in small amounts. Huge displays cost thousands but the Ultras have only ever been able to raise hundreds without giant one off donations for specific displays like the Swindon ones. Their Twitter link allows for one-off donations and monthly: https://donorbox.org/oxfordultras

Is there a rough schedule when displays are planned or is it as and when funds are available!?

Also, without wanting take it off topic, how is the relationship with the club!? If a display was planned, would the Uktras be able to execute without hindrance!?

I will happily throw £20 in to the pot!

Whenever the funds are available and whenever the right match comes along. Got to play it by ear most of the time! A balance between producing a little something for average games, and saving the money for a huge sell out display

That’s a pretty low return, might be worth thinking about. Some fans just see the word ultras and think the worst. If u set up a fund supported by the club “12th man” or Oufc display fund I think u might get a bigger up take. It would still ultimately be for ultras use. Bucket collections on the concourse, auction off old smaller display flags. See If companies like lion trust might sponsor a display for a particular game. Lots of people would donate, but u have to make it really easy for them or most just never get round to it

They had the new badge on them (no I didn't take one, but plenty around me had them) - looked good quality too............
