Home Match Build Up 24-10-2020 L1 OUFC v Swindon Town MATCH OFF

There should be a ruling, making clubs use youth, academy players, ie players not in the 22 squad to get the game played. Hardly an excuse then. Unless the efl are on the ground at the game that is called off, then the wool could potentially get pulled over their eyes.
Tonight Wasps are going into the Prem Rugby final with ELEVEN players out. They know they'll probably lose but they want to play and get it done. Just saying!!

The fact public health England allowed Scunthorpe to play, makes it more evident in my opinion that Swindon didn’t want to play because of injuries.

Given the potential for future cry-offs, and the fact that it is a legally enforcible necessity that this "match build-up" thread remains open until a day before kick-off...

...what are the chances of more pages on this thread by the time it closes, than on your average transfer window rumour thread...?

Personally I'll be somewhat disappointed if we're not into our 500th page by sometime around a week next Thursday.

If Wasps didn't play the final they wouldn't get a chance to play it again, Bristol would have taken their place so of course they want to play. So not comparable to this situation at all.

Interesting that Swindon fans on their forum are trying to claim that this isn’t that big of a game for them saying we make this bigger then it is.

Radox just played Wellans interview. Seems like EFL insisted game was played then PHE got involved and it evolved into game off.

The bit I either missed or didn't understand what how and why did PHE get called in?

The comparison is valid if you look at why they are willing to play. They have rules in place. If there was a chance of a postponement they would have taken it and played when all players were available.
At the moment it seems that individual EFL clubs can call a game off at will!! Wellens has said its as much to do with not having his back room staff with him as non availability of players. Now to me that is no valid reason. For instance he said a pro football club shouldn't be expected to play a game if (in this case) the goalkeeping coach isn't there to warm them up!! That is just nonsence!!

This has shades of the second Crewe postponement albeit with Swindon being far more cordial about the whole affair than Crewe and that loon Artell were. Both Artell and KR were both proclaiming that they didn't have any idea why the match was called off in that instance, although we all heard that PHE were the ones to call it off even though the EFL claimed in their statement that it was Crewe involved.

The lack of anything from the EFL really frustrates. Media outlets remain in the dark and fans too. Who exactly is calling off matches, on what grounds and what the are the limits to which matches can be postponed? Does anyone know?

I don't have access to KR's comments on iFollow today but apparently he's mentioned something about an investigation ongoing to the second Crewe postponement. Anyone able to decipher that?

Bristol City and Rovers only have eyes for each other. They know that their favourite rival is us.

The first Oxford win to knock the defending champions out of the League Cup, the smokebomb game, Joey Beauchamp, 1995-96 and both sides getting promoted, Di Canio and Constable, seven in a row.

Don't tell me that they don't think it as big as we do. They've love to beat us.

There just a bunch of dirty C***s we had 3 regular starters missing and was willing to play they make up some Covid excuse because they knew that even if we played our u9 team they would still lose scummy horrible little C***s

Do grow up.

Your original point wasn't about rules, you said:

"They know they'll probably lose but they want to play and get it done. Just saying!!"

That implies that unlike Swindon, despite having a weakened team they want to play even though it makes it likely they will lose. I'm simply pointing out you are wrong. Wasps, I'm sure, want to have their strongest team out. However, if they can't fulfil this fixture they won't play in the final. So, no, they don't want to play and get it done, they have no choice.
