Transfer News Transfer window 2020/21

Sending Osei out on loan is a massive own goal imo. He’s not been that bad since coming here, and there are players that have been far worse. Kelly being one of them, he’s been a massive let down so far. He may play better filling in for Brannagan once Gorrin is back in.

I think a centre half is needed, and at a push a right back.

Stunned were not in the market for a CB.Atkinsons first year of league football - question marks over fitness and he’s one for the future as much as now. Remember how Appleton brought through Dunks with Mullins/Wright.

Long has not been good at centre back. He’s continually out of position drifting to the right and leaving Ruffels exposed (Agyei doesn’t help defensively), poor in the air and slow on the turn. He’s a stable right back but nothing more.

Can’t rely on Mous to stay fit when he’s in and out of the team at 34.

If we're looking at the league though, he has only featured in around a fifth of the minutes so far, and that is despite starting v Sunderland. He was always going to be a bit of a free hit gamble, and personally, if a free agent is available who is experienced, then I wouldn't be adverse to Osei going out on loan until January with a review then.

In terms of league minutes, you'd have to say that Hall and Osei - who have been available for all 5 games thus far - are lagging way behind in terms of involvement. Along with Hanson, they are the ones who I could see being made available from those who count on the over21 squad size.

Osei - 91 minutes - 1 start, 2 sub, 1 unused, 1 not picked - 60, 2, 29.
Hall - 76 minutes - 1 start, 2 sub, 1 unused, 1 not picked - 6, 60, 10.

Goalkeepers
Eastwood - Been making far to many mistakes, and poor judgement in the last 7 months, and it’s been costing us. I thibk

Stevens - Been very impressed with him when he’s been called upon, and will make a few errors, but that’s part of learning. He has lots of time to grow, and fulfil his potential. He’s not a bad shot stopper, and can save a penalty too.
I think I’d be inclined to give him a couple of games to see how he goes, and give Easty a little rest!

Long - I don’t care what anyone says, he’s our best right back at the moment, and that’s where he should be played until we can afford someone better, but playing centre half is not his position. He will always get bullied off the ball, and will lose most aerial challenges due to his size.

Clare - If ever there was a player being played out of position then it’s this lad. You don’t have to be a DR spot to work that one out, and I’m surprised KR hasn’t played him further up the field. He can drive forward, and take players on, and deliver a decent cross. He never played RB on loan at Gillingham, and Accrington. Yet KR seems to think he can convert in to one. I don’t think that will ever happen.

Moore - I’m a big fan of Moore, and I think like Dickie he will eventually move on. He will get better, but I think he needs someone more vocal, and stronger alongside him. I don’t think Moore is a leader along the back line. So he needs an experienced partner to help him along from time to time, and someone that can compliment him.

Mous - Love his passion, and the way he comes across in the media when interviewed. His maturity really shows, and he speaks very well.
I just think he’d be better off in a coaching capacity. That way we free up a space to bring someone in as a replacement. He’s not getting any younger, and for me a bit slow. I will say one thing, he’s been a great servant for us.

Atkinson - From the few games I’ve seen him play I’ve been satisfied with his overall play. I like how he drives with the ball out of defence, a bit like Dickie used to do. He’s also very good in the air. So he’s a threat from set pieces. I just think he’s a little too inexperienced at this moment in time, and he will be one for the future that’s for certain. I do like how the club got him in early to mix with the lads after signing however.

Ruffles - A player being played out of his natural position, has somehow made the left back roll his own. Despite having a poor game last time out, he’s been one of the steady players for the last couple of seasons. You know what you get with him, and he always gives it is best shot. He has a knack of popping up with a goal or two as well. I do think it’s a position we should look to strengthen, because if Ruffs gets injured we are basically screwed on the left side. We have brought players in to add competition, but they aren’t good enough. Berkoe for example.

Elechi - Is young raw and learning, and a loan spell will do him good imo. He did ok against Bristol Rovers, but just ok!

As for the other defenders in the squad, I honestly don’t think they are good enough to be in the starting eleven.

The defensive line up tonight should be
Stevens
Long
Moore
Atkinson
Ruffs.
And if fit Gorrin shielding the back four. My favourite player at the club.

The defence is clearly the place to bring in reinforcements if only KR could see it. I’m extremely happy with our midfield and striking options.

Agyei is not poor in the air if anything he wins a lot more 50-50 headers than the rest from midfield to the attack

All would be amongst the highest earners at the club if they were to come in..

So on that, it’s very doubtful.
Surely with the wage cap unless a team hasn’t spent much of their wage cap these players may have to accept the finance that’s offered

We need a defender. What is so difficult to understand?

“People talk about (needing to sign) centre backs, but I think Sam Long has done really well."

“Mous (John Mousinho) trained with the group (on Monday) so he’s not too far away now, which is good news.

“Michael Elechi is doing really well.

“There’s a lot of development left in him, so you don’t want to block that pathway.”

Where is the cover for future injuries? We are leaking goals every game.

If we don't keep a clean sheet tonight then surely it will be apparent to all that something is wrong?
Sam Long is not a Div1 quality player. What is kr thinking, its the defence that needs an overhaul.

Have to disagree there, Sam Long has been good at RB but people are comparing him to Cadden, Baldock and Kenny who are all quality RB’s who all play to a higher standard of football 2 are premiership and if Cadden had signed for us instead of the Yankee dandy doodles he may have been a good transfer fee for us in this past transfer window.

Yet another wide player?! At the moment we have:

Agyei who has been one of our best players in every game he’s played so far and drawn praise from from KR

Cooper who was NI player of the year and has looked very promising whenever he’s featured

Sykes who looked good out wide right last game and was one of the best players.

Henry who while also featuring more centrally has done well for us wide right, linking up with Taylor

Shodipo who was literally brought in to play out wide, filling up our last precious squad place, and apparently has pace to burn

Osei Yaw who can play as a striker but given that he’s behind Taylor and Winnall, will more likely feature our wide

Hall who was given an extended contract by KR and, to be fair to him, has looked a lot better this season whenever he’s played

That’s 7, seven, players all vying for two spaces. In a squad limited for numbers.

Robinson also says that someone who can play centrally up front might be good. But we only play one striker and already have Taylor and Winnall there, as well as Agyei and Osei Yaw backing them up. Two big name players going for one position, with a couple of young, raw players as backup.

Don’t get me wrong, if you have someone who’s clearly better than any of those options mentioned and will slot straight into the first team, bring them on (hence why we should have signed Whyte, if we could) but realistically if it’s going to be another squad player then the only position that doesn’t have a decent amount of cover is centre back.
And you haven't mentioned Forde either who can play there. We have more wing options than we do first team options for our back four.

Sykes, Henry, Forde, Hall, Cooper, Agyei, Osei Yaw and Shodipo.

In comparison, our defensive options are Clare, Long, Moore, Mousinho, Atkinson and Ruffels.

If we were drawing every game 0-0 I could see where Karl's coming from, but to claim he needs more wingers when he's happy with our back-up right back and left back also being our fourth-choice centre half? I'm sorry, that's bordering on idiocy.

and there in lay the problem, fans want new recruits the best for thislevel but only due to future value

i keep saying it if fans want the model you need to accept what may follow

I dont get this 'model' talk to excuse our poor form. Every club below the top 4 or whatever in the prem are selling clubs and will lose their best players when bigger clubs come sniffing. I dont think we are that different with our 'model' than other clubs in our league.

But hasnt played for absolute months even going back to the end of last sesson. So thats til Xmas to get fit, by then we'll be in January anyway.

Its a defender we need, whos broadly ready to play.
No different to Chris Gunter then who you were championing as a signing before his move to Charlton. We've got two defenders coming in. Atkinson who is fit and Mous who will be back to full fitness very soon.
