Transfer News Transfer window 2020/21

The problem with this is that anyone we look to bring now will be nowhere near match fitness. So we'd wait a month or so before we could use them by which point Mous is good to go. So I'm not sure that it's money worth spending, especially as who ever we bring in would still be on our books in January so we'd have to release someone else anyway.
Less so than in previous years as there will be more cancelled contracts than normal which means players are likely to have had pre-season and full training if not too much match time on the basis they are being let go.

Abu Ogogo hasn't been included in the squad list by Bristol Rovers and from the articles on it, his salary isn't included in the salary cap. Maybe their and my understanding is wrong.
Couldnt you (with the players agreement) just change their job description from 'player' to 'backroom staff' or similar to get around this? Similarly you could for example employ a players wife on a high wage in some club position and give the same player a low wage. Seems like their are plenty of loopholes in this salary cap/squad limit malarchy.

They still have to take up part of the salary cap in terms of pure wages even if they aren’t registered and are left out of the squad - their salaries still count even if you can’t fit them in to play - but it does make a mockery of the idea that you can afford to pay someone their salary, but can’t register them. If you can afford them and they fit into the budget, why do you have to tell them they can’t do their job? Shouldn’t matter if you spend your budget on 20 players or 30, or what age they are, but the whole thing was a con from the off. It’s all geared towards handicapping those lower down the chain. They don’t want us owning too many assets, so capping both ages and numbers squeezes both ends.

Wait until next season and the one after, when the number of 21+ players L1 and L2 clubs can have goes down even more, and players start to get older and suddenly go from being outside of the cap to inside of it. That’s when it’ll get really fun.

I see, thanks.

Yep so you are basically paying someone for doing nothing but that player can’t play.

So according to the oxford mail the gap in the player cap has to be made by tomorrow for us then to be able to sign any free agents that would take a space.those free agents could be signed after the squad registration.so by tomorrow we will know if a free agent signing and how many are imminent.

Hope for 3. Get 1

I would be amazed if they sent Osei Yaw out on loan. He’s the one person I’d keep hold of, because you can chuck him on for the last 10 minutes of a game, and have a chance of a goal.

Look at his stats. Most of his goals in an Oxford shirt have been towards the end of a match.

So, if we now want additional players already having 22 senior players and they can't now be loaned or sold. Does this mean our options are to only bring in under 21s. Pay some seniors to not be involved with our first team squad, or pay off their contracts so that they are free agents ?

I think the conference can still take in loan players as their rules are different, so we could send players in that direction.

Current form spread over the whole season, 72? :ROFLMAO:
in Football How can something that is current be used to forecast something 8 months ahead?

You appear to suggest we are going to struggle so what is the cut off point for safey 50 pts?

i'm willing to wager with you that we get more than 50 pts and will pay £20 for every point less and you pay £20 for every point above and you've already got 5 games in your favour Do we have a Deal?

I think the next few days will see Mous left off the squad along with Agyei who will get a loan to improve his tenacity and core strength. If KR fancied him we wouldn't have used our last purchase on a tricky winger with pace. That will give us space for 2 incoming permanent deals. I think Mous has lost the last of his pace and the injury is probably the last straw for someone who has OUFC in his veins.

Agyei isn't going anywhere based on KR's comments last week.

Who could you loan him to though?
I can't see any of our first team squad dropping down to non league.

I'll return to my previous thoughts on this

Sykes-Agyei

Long-Agyei

Henry-Agyei

Taylor-Agyei

link up play with all 4 from Agyei has been very good and is not the type of player to offload and you can add sykes to the other 3 also since he's another being mentioned for offloading

No way would we get rid of either of those! Crazy

Well yes of course. But there are fine lines in football. Both Taylor & Agyei had good chances saved by the keepers feet on Saturday. Then Kelly under hits a pass to Long, Peterborough break & the ball goes under Eastwood’s foot, very fine margins. So if you want to make your assessment on how well a team is performing based on those small moments then that’s your choice. But personally I’d rather look at the bigger picture of how a team is performing as a whole, in the expectation that if you do the right things you’ll ultimately get your rewards over the season.

So yeah, looking at the bigger picture, I have confidence that going forwards we'll eventually be OK. We're creating a bunch of opportunities - we're just not putting enough away at the moment. But given the talent we do have, I think this group will eventually turn it around and score enough goals to at least, from that perspective, be able to contend for the playoffs in League One.

But the defense? That scares me. We look short on quality and we are definitely short on numbers.
Last year, we got through the whole season with just six (and later five) senior defenders. But we were lucky with injuries and suspensions; and now we've lost by far and away our best defender, and our good ol' senior pro is looking as if his playing days may be numbered.
We're shipping two goals a game and it is not undeserved. The defending on Saturday was horrendous at times and we could and probably should have conceded more than two. Gorrin coming back will help (he supports the back four in a way that Kelly does not) but he's not enough.

At this point, I honestly don't care what position along the back line they play (with Long's versatility, we have options) but we need to bring in another decent quality defender before it's too late. Otherwise I just can't see us being good enough at the back this season, and mid-table will be our ceiling.
