International News Covid-19 .....

According to BBC News this evening tests per day are nearer 260,000, with capacity just above that figure.
Dido Hardings own report shows that at the beginning of September c 62,000 people were being tested on average per day.

We've seen in recent days that capacity is a red herring. What's the point of having the capacity to take 260,000 swabs a day if you can only test c 62,000 of them?

We terminated our outsourcing arrangement.
Sadly it is not a simple process.
So our cleaners were outsourced, over 2 years they were reduced in numbers and quality slipped away.
They were then out of TUPE protection and forced to sign new contracts, worse Ts&Cs of course.
So 4 years into the contract we terminated it on grounds of not achieving measures etc.
We still needed cleaners, they then get TUPED the other way as is required.
As we didn`t have enough cleaners the Trust started to re-employ cleaners directly, on better Ts & C`s.
Some 5-6 years later we still had folk doing the same job getting paid differently.

Simple me says Contract terminated just switch them all over to NHS Ts&Cs.............. you aren`t allowed to do that as workers rights are protected and it can`t be dodged!

The folk who start such things never understand, see or care about the reality on the ground.

Outsourcing of any people that work in the NHS should not be allowed, it destroys the whole team bond & team ethos.

However how do you get the private sector "good bits" into the NHS?
Well that’s unusually sensible stuff

They just prepare bids for contracts really well and as everyone has to be treated "equally and transparently" .
Even if you know they are cack you have to use the scoring system based on the bid.
It`s the same for job applications and interviews... .humanity has been removed because people think everyone else is biased.;)

Whats the point in all the questions about failure to deliver on previous contracts then?

I dont believe it's the government, more the people. Too many are set in their ways and reluctant to conform.

They need to adapt to the new norm.
If you want people to adapt you need to make them feel as though they can trust what you say. It’s really that simple and a notion that has been completely lost in an era of gaslighting and arson.

So yesterday my son (who is 6 ) gets sent home from school high temp suspect Covid which is fine his two brothers also had to come home again fair enough but what really pissed me off is that to get him tested would have taken a 135 mile round trip to Solihull luckily for us after four attempts we managed to get a home testing kit.. it’s not acceptable to expect people to have to travel that far to get a test

That's what a world class testing system gets you...

Fair point.

Reading the BBC over the last couple of days, two stories, one in which the UK might have to implement more stricter measures.

The other pushing the government to allow more fans into football matches.

I’m afraid that’s just how it is here, universally. Bit like when the PM quite literally said he agreed with one of his backbenchers that it was our duty to go to the pub when they reopened, the chancellor gave everybody a discount to go to restaurants, we were universally told to crack on because we should be aiming for a nice ‘normal’ Christmas, and then they turned around and said young people were going out too much.

The best way to combat any crisis is to have the trust of the people, who will in turn look to you to direct them and follow your directions. That is your single best weapon in any crisis situation - it is all about trust. They don’t have to agree with your policies in terms of everyday life, but they have to trust your intentions when the mud hits the fan and believe that you are telling the truth and have a plan to get through it. People will largely throw their rosettes in the bin in that scenario, because people want to get through it. They want to get it right.

Which is why having single issue arsonists in charge, who stole the keys to the car but have no idea how to drive it, has not gone well.

'we ' could all wear tweed, carry shotguns and go where ever we like, in groups of up to 30, claiming to be shooting grouse, should 'we' wish to

More planning for care homes which had no problems whatsoever the 1st time:

I can't help but notice the correlation between areas going into new lockdowns and areas that voted for Brexit. Must be due to the high proportion of the population who know better than the experts.

To aid your desperation ....... hey they voted Tory as well. ? ?

The problem is complacency & confusion on all side, the government, local councils and the public.
A simple clear & enforceable message for everyone not by regions or cities.
Round these parts the City was in "partial lockdown" but Oadby & Wigston were released "early".
It is a suburb of the city......... barely 2 miles from the centre and seperated by a golf club.
Amazingly cases surged and now they have to go back into lockdown .................next Tuesday!!
Why the feck it isn`t today or Saturday? I have no idea but lets wait another week!
Too many wannabe politico`s muddying the water.

Go hard lockdown and then target the resources at the hotspots.

You don`t play Wack a Mole by making more holes. :)

I'm not sure local Councils can be blamed too much considering how they have been cut out of the process and struggling for resources to just do what they normally do. Resources were short before taking into account the loss of income/increased cost from Coronavirus which is massive. The Govt have given about half of the C19 shortfall but Councils are still £billions short.

You can manage Covid positive patients in care homes if you KNOW they are positive. Not knowing was the problem first time round.

Not all homes it is as easy as that and taking Covid positive patients into an environment with very vulnerable people is lunacy, almost criminal to do the same thing again considering the outcome last time. And the 1st time the homes did know and told the Govt but they still had to take Covid positive patients unless they had to take the horrible decision of discharging patients (which can be a death sentence in itself).

Oh and to follow on:

Local numbers.....
10,552 people in Leicestershire have tested positive - up from 10,437 (increase 85).
6344 (increase of 47) are within the Leicester City Council area.
4178 (increase of 38) cases were reported in the County.

Death toll up by 1 to 444.

32 inpatients are positive.
