Transfer News Transfer window 2020/21

Not sure if it's just my memory playing tricks, but didn't he pick up his first booking for the club for launching a winger into the technical area in front of the South stand before he'd even touched the ball in the game? Legendary status assured right then.

Can't remember but he launched a few that season so very likely.

That innocent look as well afterwards! "What, what's the matter...barely touched him ref!"

Forde demonstrated he is a possibility.

I'd agree with that. I'd also add that it is vital that Forde remains part of our squad as he is able to cover so many positions.
The article in the Oxford Mail hints at Mous being removed from the squad until the new year, which makes sense if we need to create space for a new LB, LW and CH.

We need someone who can do the Gorrin job too if Hansen isn't being considered. Liam Kelly is a lovely footballer, but having him in there is suicide. ,

Hanson is out injured until October and missed most of pre-season.

I liked the look of Forde right from his arrival here, despite injuries. He has a decent pedigree, he's a good age and plenty of league experience and played representative football at several levels. He needs a bit of stability and a good run in the team in my opinion. If he can stay fit and we use him to his strengths, he is a real asset.

AS great a player as Kelly is (his passing, positional sense and dead ball ability is extremely good IMHO), I think he struggles without space in front of him. Lincoln consistently played 10 behind the ball and packed the pitch in front of him. He couldn't pick an early pass and we had nobody really running in behind to stretch them and create some space. As a consequence he looked ponderous and passes were less than incisive for the large part (be interesting to see if @Shosho data bits bore out what I thought I saw!). It was a Gorrin type game, rather than a Kelly type one, but KR didn't have that option, so maybe roll the dice and try Forde in there with Kelly coming on, when the gaps do appear?

Corbo - Eight bookings and a red card in ELEVEN matches for Oxford Utd.

Sadly it didn't make the highlights but IIRC Emiliano Diaz had a shot on target in that game.

It would be cruel to think that the most technically deficient player I have ever seen play for us could have ended his Oxford career with goal to his name in a league fixture.

Hanson is sadly becoming like George Thorne and now seems to either be recovering from injury or just got injured.

it’s harsh but Hanson has offered nothing but the odd cameo in his whole time with us. I would send him out on loan to try and get him fit. If he goes on a season long loan does he come off of our squad cap? I can’t see how he fits into our midfield even if he was fit, too many players better than him.

Certainly a share of it would I think depending on how much the L1 average wage (I assume he is paid over this) they pay. I can't see him going out on loan as he is injured and won't be back/fit for the end of the transfer window.

I really rate Forde...but to answer your question:

Kelly's pass map...plenty side to side but like you say, nothing too progressive. He is capable of it - he did it to start Sykes' goal vs Wycombe and showed bits previously. I watched a fair amount of him at reading and whilst he can dictate things from deep, he can pick runs when played further forward. I would argue Saturday's match is why Kelly has been bought in...Gorrin can do the mopping up but Kelly is there to find a way. Much of it was equally our obsession with just getting the ball wide then hammering it into the box - as soon as we started to work it out we created.

To address the second part, Lincoln's defensive actions:

Pretty much defended the centre of the box (links to my post the other day re: quality of chances). We will face plenty of low blocks this season, its down to us to be patient and work the openings.

Interesting.

please can you run Kelly’s runs with the ball? @Shosho
Because that was the difference between Forde in a similar role. Forde made more movement with the ball and was more effective with his passing. Just my opinion. He was also more effective in defence.

Excellent point about running with (and I would argue without) the ball. Forde does the former rather well I think. Again it was noticeable (to me at least) that the only one really running from deep with the ball was Atkinson (perhaps a little too much and perhaps without much end product much if the time!). Whilst he's good at bringing it out of defence, I did suffer palpitations every time he got deep into the Lincoln half and couldn't find a decent ball...it meant a midfield player (Branners or Kelly) had to drop in behind to cover, when you would ideally wan them a bit further up joining the attack. Not only that but if you hurry him and cut off the pass options he's going to get dispossessed and stranded in the wrong part of the pitch...another reason why intelligent movement off the ball is so important!

The last two midfielders who really ran at players with the ball and created space without it were Fosu and Baptiste I think......it is a dimension we need to work on......

I’d assume so or possibly you could take him out of the 22 man squad cap to bring others in with KR looking at with Mousinho if it’s long term.
