National News Boris Johnson - Ousted Former PM

Kier Starmer has an approval rating of 42% compared to Boris’s 39%. Some people will say look he has a better approval rating that shows Boris is doing a bad job. If we actually analyse these figures we have Boris leading the country through its most difficult times in 70 odd years and dealing with Brexit which a significant minority still fail to accept compared to Kier Starmer who took over a party with its least popular leader in years only 5/6 months ago who has done nothing really bar slate the government.

As Boris was a key architect of Brexit I don't think that he or his supporters have the right to complain about how difficult it is.

All that MSM waffle about ‘rebellion,
Naturally a 77 majority.
I guess we’re still not yet at the Remain Rorke’s Drift. But we can’t be far away.

do we? ... Bojo is noticeable by his many, many absences, with a pandemic and the brexit debacle to sort out, personallyI'd prefer to have a leader who is more visible and right at the forefront, instead of hiding from his responsibilities like this buffoon

Why would he step down with the majority he has and I the lack of public will for him to do it?? I don't understand why you'd imagine he would just resign from the job he's worked for his whole life to obtain...

I'm not really a Boris fan or a Conservative but come on, accept that he's going to be in power for some time yet.
It's not unheard of to step down over scandals and poor work even if you've got a mandate. Individual ministerial (and prime ministerial) responsibility does have precedent

I suspect he was desperate to get the job, and will love to swan about as 'ex-PM Boris' afterwards but is not enjoying the experience of actually *being* PM. (Admittedly he's been PM during a s**t storm, but equally I don't think there are that many who think he's done much of a job of it.)

My prediction is that he will leave step down in the first three months of next year for health reasons - unless we suddenly get a vaccine and 'beat' the virus, in which case he will stay and take the credit! Those quasi-Churchillian speeches won't make themselves, you know...
You're right...Boris is PM during a shitstorm......but a rather large proportion of the dung in that storm is Boris and Dommy's own. They are actively flinging it all over Whitehall, like a couple of demented Orangutans caged in a zoo.

As an aside, I'm considering setting up a go fund me page to buy EY a dictionary so he can understand the meaning of the word "phyrric" in relation to any of Boris and the Tories so called triumphs.

Oh well...he (and his sycophantic yes men) are gradually taking the Tories closer to the cliff edge, much in the way Corbyn did with Labour...but their thumping majority will mean they've now got 4 years worth of rope to hang themselves with on the current trajectory. It will happen....it always does...it will just be slow painful and excruciating to watch...and many of us common serfs will pay very dearly in the process.

I think it used to...but the new game in town is blame the experts and Civil servants and get THEM to resign instead and then install more sycophantic yes men....just like Trump and his coterie have done with large swathes of Public service in America.

Cummings has turned that on it's head and is currently going through the civil serivce like a hot knife through butter and there is nobody (other than Boris or Gove) who can or will stop him. I dare say it will not end well for anyone involved!

Do you mean a leader like Sadiq Khan in London who Boris and co have just taken control of the repair of Hammersmith bridge from although it’s not his fault.?????.[

Kier Starmer has done nothing really bar slate the government.
The role of a parliamentary opposition is to challenge and scrutinise the incumbent government. This Starmer has done, and in doing so showed considerable restraint considering the chaotic mess Johnson and co. are creating at almost every turn.

I get that you're a Tory supporter. I get that you will never find it within yourself to praise the opposition under any circumstances, but if you genuinely think all Starmer has done is 'slate the government' I have to question your understanding of how our democracy works.

I reckon the Tory MPs will shift him out (along with Cummings) after Brexit but not before. I don't think he will step down voluntarily.

Yes I understand that entirely regarding scrutiny etc and am pleased we live in a democracy that over 4 elections has said Labour isn’t the party to lead this country and even at present according to opinion polls still isn’t trustworthy enough of the people to do so despite the “chaotic mess the government is creating at every turn” you speak of.

Nice attempt at deflection, but your point was that all Starmer has done is slate the government. He has not, he has scrutinised the government's actions, as is his role. I'm pleased that politics is giving your pleasure at the moment, but you still don't seem to 'get' the point that Starmer is behaving just as should be expected within a democracy.

On the issue of Covid testing, I've been listening to TV news all morning - admittedly on the left-leaning BBC - and I wish all these moaners would stop going on about not be able to get tests or being sent hundreds of miles for one. Government spokespeople have clearly stated that tests ARE available in increasing numbers, so just shut up you whiners.

It is a shambles...but it's OK...the government know best

Back in your boxes, plebs.

Read my first line about scrutiny regarding Starmer that says I fully understand about scrutiny etc. is that not clear enough yes slating was a bad chose of word,
so no deflection by my reply.
As for scrutiny plenty of that I suspect will come Starmers way when we are in calmer waters again.

Excellent! 2+2=5. You're getting with the programme.

Anyway back on track.

I would have more respect for the opposition if they said "What would give a better result is this............".
Rather than just saying "That`s wrong, get it right".

Nice to see Keir on his Zoom call to the unions trying to take credit for the Sunak furlough scheme........................
