Sue Barker is leaving after 23 years. Matt Dawson & Phil Tufnell are also leaving, they had 16 & 12 years respectively.
Terrible news!

First Bake Off now QOS.

What do you mean, 'first Bake Off'?

Seems like a combined 51 years of service is a pretty good run! Things have to end sometime, I hope they find good custodians to take it over, rather than scrapping the format altogether.

Have to admit I only really watched regularly when I was younger and it was the Ally McCoist/John Parrott combination, Ally was so good with off the cuff comments.

Anything with James Corden in is automatically disqualified from being ‘better’ than anything else.

As for QOS, it’s safe, typically-BBC viewing. You can watch it with anyone of any age although you only tend to watch it when waiting for something else to come on. I reckon it succeeds in that sweet spot of ‘this’ll do for 20 mins or so’ level of programming.

There’s a lot of things I miss from Britain since I left, but this thread has reminded me that QoS is definitely not one of them. Golf jumpers and contestants who are either hypermaniacs or thoroughly beige!

He's not presenting it anymore.

Given how cheap it is to make it will go on forever.

The only people who watch the BBC now are old people, so the BBC should keep making the shows they watch like question of sport rather than chasing after the younger generations which either watch Netflix etc or the even younger generation which doesn’t seem to watch tv shows and is on tik tok etc. The BBC is dead once it’s audience dies out soonish but it should concentrate on making programmes for that demographic till then, accept its fate gracefully.

It's a good job none of us listens to, say, football commentaries on BBC Radio Oxford then. Or like to get our news from a source that is not owned by a media magnate with political leanings. Or watch stuff on BBC iPlayer. Or listen to new music on BBC 6Music, watch interesting documentaries on BBC4 etc etc.
The BBC does much more than cater to the mass middle market and we would miss it if it went.

Question of sport....a load of absolute tripe ,a little club with personal in jokes.......the old bat has had it good for long enough, the horse has been flogged down to its bare bones....good riddence to bad rubbish.......DEFUND the BBC ...........we've had enough of that scum robbing the public'

I don’t do any of that, like most people now. Nearly all of that will be replaced by commercial tv etc when the BBC is gone. It’s impossible to support a flat rate tax for something very few people use anymore.

The problem with commercial TV is that it's driven by commercial needs and marketing teams. Say goodbye to anything different, such as Later with Jools Holland. Think ITV - absolute dross on there.

Is that the case now? Plenty of stuff to watch on the various different providers. I can’t say I have watch ITV any more than BBC, they are both running out of time now. But ITV don’t charge me for not watching them.

If anyone can give a decent argument why I should pay towards a a BBC I (and millions others) don’t watch I am interested to hear it, but I doubt you can. I don’t ask anyone to contribute towards my Sky or Netflix, so I struggle to see why I should pay for your BBC?
