Transfer News Transfer window 2020/21

Nathan Holland is out of contract next summer so will want to go out where he can get games if he's out of favour at West Ham. He may not yet be ready for a full season, but the same could be said for Joel Cooper who is playing professionally for the first time. I think he'd be a great addition to the squad, which then maybe only leaves us looking for over at left back/centre back (assuming Winnall is coming in!).
I had seen on other news articles that Holland is being targeted by a host of championship clubs

I think that might have been media spin that West Ham created, in order to create interest. I have only seen a few of those articles but its been radio silence, ever since.

Is he really good enough for the championship, at this stage? No doubt he is a prospect for the future but physically, he needs to develop a lot more to cope with the demands of a full season at that level; or even ours.

Do we need cover at CB? I'm not convinced that we do. Id rather we pushed the boat out to get Holland back on loan (and if all goes well, sign him on a permanent at the end of the season), and bring in Garbutt as LM/LB cover/competition for Ruffels.

If we had a left sided defender able to cover left back and centre back then that would gives us a lot of cover across the back. With Holland and Cooper on the wing, I don't see a need for Garbutt in an attacking position, and there are better left back options than him!

Atkinson has played LB before and based on his style of play, I can actually see him doing a good job there. Mous could tuck into LCB as cover. I really dont think we need any more CB's but im a massive Atkinson fan so of course I'm going to say that.

Not sure how likely Holland is so we may need to look at alternatives.

Any idea who we might be looking at for LB cover?

Holmes-Dennis is a free agent. Wouldn’t be a bad back up for a Ruffels. Didn’t he do well here on loan. Doubt he’ll Be on much of a wage too.

KR said in his interview on RadOx that the LB cover would need to be under 21 but someone you could rely on to play regularly if needed.

I think this is an important point that has been overlooked so far. We're operating on the assumption that we need ST, LW, LB and CB cover, but only have one or two places (I think) left in our 'squad cap'. So to cover all those positions, we either need versatile players, like Omar Beckles or Luke Garbutt, or, and this is the overlooked point, we need u-21s to cover them.

I think we've all been focussing on the versatile players as being a priority more than thinking we could get in the best available players under the wage cap for certain positions, and then fill others with u-21 loans. If we are to do this, I would personally prefer that the ST and CB roles are more experienced, over-21 players, as I always feel slightly more comfortable with an experienced core of a team. I would be perfectly happy for our LB and LW cover to be u-21 loans. Look at Diangana last year for West Brom - was 21 for most of the season, on loan from West Ham, and by all accounts tore the Championship a new one.

Having watched the Preview Show on ifollow I'm sure we'll get an announcement tomorrow.

If it is Winnall tomorrow.. KR said we could wait a few weeks for the left midfielder.. step forward Marcus Browne on deadline day.. who knows ?

Great display of self-restraint ??

I have no doubt that whoever we bring in, will be quality. So far, we have had a brilliant window.
A brilliant window? Really? I know im seen as negative but im just not sure what weve done thats so impressive. Signed Brannagan down, absolutely. Sold Dickie, not so much. Cooper, Clare and McGuane all a bit unknown. Potential of course. Likewise Osei and Asangonyi. Zero pace. Light up front. Decent. Could have been a lot worse. Not brilliant imo. Different perspectives

Different perspectives indeed. Something I am very thankful for. Blimey.

...and Matty Taylor,. who you were creaming yourself about this time last season.

I'm guessing that you haven't seen any of the pre-season or cup games? McGuane looks the best find so far, strong, with real drive through the middle of the pitch, and great vision to bring others into the game. Osei Yaw is rare, but a couple of goals at Brentford and open against Chelsea kids shows that he knows where the goal is and I think he'll give us more goals than we had from Mackie and Agyei last season. Cooper only had a couple of games but already looks better than Sykes when he arrived and I'm sure he'll develop into a very good player. Clare has been a bit hit and miss, but Cadden wasn't the greatest defender either and he'll hopefully settle.

Alongside Taylor signing, Brannagan extending and Atkinson being virtually a new signing that has looked incredible, I think it's fair to say that this has been a pretty decent window, even with Dickie going.
