Home Match Day Thread +++ 05/09/2020 Carabao Cup R1 OUFC v AFC Wimbledon+++

It feels strange starting with a cup game but it’s great to have competitive football again, especially as games are going to come thick and fast now. I’ll go for a 2-1 win with Taylor and Osei Yaw grabbing the goals

I think we had a season before where we started in the League cup on a Tuesday. Anyone remember which season that was?

Only one problem with this one. Robinson has sad that he will be treating these cup matches as pre-season games. So a lot will depend on the side he puts out. First team (whatever that is) and we win.

They've already said that they will be putting out two separate teams for both cup games, given the game after this is the stupid trophy plus it will be then be a league game a few days after, I assume today's team will be a first team, and then a second team on Tuesday? Or will both teams be a mix? (Obviously no Clare or Cooper today, both of whom might be considered first XI players)

Yes I would agree this will be the approach. Same team as QPR game minus Cooper and Clare.

Anyone have the prize money info to hand for EFL Cup and Trophy games for this season?

The EFL Cup is notoriously bad for prize money as it normally only kicks in for semi finals onwards so there’s not a huge incentive to go for it. No chance of any crowds any time soon suggests nobody will be making much money at all from these fixtures.

We tend to start slowly under KR. I’m confident we can make an impression though and it’s useful that start this season against a fellow L1 side rather than facing a Championship side who could give us a pasting.

It looks like the first 4 rounds of this competition are all in September. So the first 4 rounds will not have any crowds, then the 5th round is 22nd/23rd of December. The 5th round has 4 games, semis 2 games then there is the final. So a total of only 7 games in whole competition will have spectators (of which 4 games are only 2 or 3 days before Christmas). So what is the point? Also to put a game on will cost money.
I normally like the idea of putting out best team for the cup games and progress as far as possible even at the expense of some league points, but this time, no, league needs to take priority.

My guess is that the competition has to take place so get the first four rounds out of the way in September. This allows more midweek slots later in the season for league games when hopefully more fans are allowed in. Pressure on season ticket refund possibilities are thereby reduced (because the later league games were able to be attended if the ST holder wished to). Not saying it's the right way to do things but I can sort of see why it's been scheduled this way.

I saw on twitter that the game is available to stream on Ladbrokes if you have an account. Can anyone with an account confirm?

Eastwood
Long Atkinson Moore Ruffels
McGuane Gorrin Brannagan
Henry Taylor Hall

3 nil to start the season nicely. Hall, Taylor, McGuane

Do we still need to have some continuity between trophy games and league games? I’m sure it was a rule before that you have to have a certain amount from your next league game. If that’s the case and KR is playing 2 teams in our 2 cup matches then it looks like today will be our “weaker” side.
