Hardly the most riveting topic but I know a few people join me in having an obsession about the squad numbers.

Based on photos/videos so far, it would appear our squad numbers are relatively unchanged for the new season.
Clare has the number 2, Sykes the number 10, Agyei takes Mackie's 19, otherwise as you were with a hole at number 11 (unless someone has it and has been wearing a different number for the camp)

1. Eastwood
2. Clare
3. Ruffels
4. Dickie
5. Moore
6. Gorrin
7. Hall
8. Brannagan

Hopefully some more young players will have squad numbers. Hanson and Napa will have to be ready to make a real contribution

Think last season, every player at the club from first team down to the youngest age group had a squad number as such.

I'd expect Spasov etc to make up the 20 somethings.

Does the 22 man squad limit include players under the age of 21 or can they be added? I just wonder what would happen if we name our squad of 22 and then later in the season a couple of U23 players are doing really well and deserve to break into the first team squad? Is that allowed?

Players under 21 don't count, so we can have as many of them registered as we like.

As mentioned, wage and squad restrictions don't apply to u21's which will hopefully encourage more youth development. We're in a decent position with our set up and will hopefully see more pushing into the first team, but will also help increase their market value.

Does it count throughout the length of contract? Or as soon as they hit 21 they go into the wage cap?

I'd imagine it is included once they get to the date so expect a lot 20/21 year olds (depending on when their birthday falls) being released if they aren't pushing for a 1st team start. As said Sam Long would be gone under this set up.

I suspect that there will be an increase in teams playing u23's games to enable promising youngsters to be kept on but without being classed as first teamers.

I think it will be the beginning of the season after they turn 22 (but not easy to unpick the efl stuff!)
The EFL FFP regulations Part 3 L1 SCMP Guidance Note 7 states:

7 Professional Under 21 Players
7.1 Professional Under 21 Player means any Player registered with the Club as a Contract Player on a Full Contract basis who is aged 20 years or under as at the 1 July immediately preceding the commencement of the Season to which the Reporting Period relates.
Guidance
For example a player aged 20 on or after the 1 July 2019 is classed as an Under 21 Player for Season 2019/20, but not for 2020/21.

7.2 The Individual Player Salary Costs of a Professional Under 21 Player are excluded from the Club’s total Player Related Expenditure for the purposes of assessing whether that Club has complied with the SCMP Requirement. However, the Individual Player Salary Costs for Professional Under 21 Players shall be separately reported in the Player Salary Costs Worksheet of any SCMP Submission in accordance with Note 5.9.4 and/or Note 6.6.

There doesn't seem any reason to change this definition when they move from the 60% rule to the £2.5m cap but with the EFL, you never know!

I haven't spotted Atkinson, Cooper or Moore in any of the photos but assume Cooper takes 11, with Moore keeping 5.

It looks like Cooper is 16 and Atkinson is 22.

Assuming he signs as has been indicated by EC and Scotchegg, I can’t see Kelly taking the 11 - I imagine this will be kept for a winger.

Kelly to 18?

He was 28 last season, but I wonder if there is any relevance to Atkinson changing to 22 and the squad limits. That would mean that 11 and 18 are spare with others potentially being moved out to accommodate others.

We’ll probably be looking for a new number 4 before long and I can see Napa going out on loan to a league 2 or possibly NL team.

On a positive side note, there’s a nice little chat between Rob Hall and Chris Williams on ifollow. There’s a determined steely look in Rob’s eyes, he says he feels a lot better than this time last year when he wasnt really ready to play. Without wishing to tempt fate, I’ve got a good feeling about him this year. I think we might almost have a ‘new signing‘ in the squad. A fit and firing Rob Hall would be a massive bonus. Good luck to him.
