Transfer News Transfer window 2020/21

When watching some highlights of Glentoran games, this one stood out but not because of Paul O'Neil:

About 3 minutes Larne score (ex FL stalwart Jeff Hughes) and the goalkeeping is fantastically awful, well worth a watch.

As for Paul O'Neil, If we are interested then I do like the positions in the box he takes up as shown by his goal (after the Larne goal in the 1st half). On the negative (only based on the few games of highlights I've watched), when playing wide he doesn't seem the most active in chasing back.

That whole 'highlights' reel was horrible to watch.

The article says squad limits to be set at 22 players not 21? Unless I’m reading that wrong? So three more players could come in, which is quite a lot.

Also, given under 21s don’t count, a couple of 20 year old decent Premiership youngsters could bolster that without causing any issues.

I'd hope the likes of Jones, Lopes etc will put pressure on this season as well.

They paid £4m for him and he's on £550,000 plus? Absolutely no chance of him coming other than on loan and them paying most of his wages. Any idea of what money Matt Taylor is on?
4 million depending on appearances and promotion through to the premiership otherwise it was 1.25 million initial fee

typical efl. surely all this should’ve been discussed/arranged/guessed before the window opened giving clubs time to plan and adjust.
another bloody mess

It is stupidly being rushed. This should have been planned for the following season when it can be properly thought through.

Looks about 12 ?
You can just see FB now from the scum fans harping on about special relationship with Arsenal as they did when they had 4 Chelsea loans when we beat them with Robbies goal, and where are those 4 players now

As much as I think the proposed salary cap and squad sizes are too low, this is still an excellent opportunity for some of our younger players to get their chance.

We still possess an advantage over a number of clubs in our division as we have a really decent youth system. Invest the money there. Keep competing for the best local talent and demonstrate that they’ll get their opportunity in the first team.

Lofthouse and others need to be given a chance at some stage. I’ve no doubt that one or two will go on to be really decent players.
As much as I agree that our academy and youth set up has greatly improved in recent years due to Tiger’s investment and the great work of Dan Harris and his staff, is it really any better than anyone else’s in the division? The likes of Crewe and Accrington have had to rely on it as their lifeblood for decades. It would be interesting to see the stats on home grown players that have gone on to make decent numbers of league appearances with all of our league 1 rivals this season. Up until now our success has come from being able to pick up players from bigger club’s academies.

Yes, I’m not sure our youth scheme is so outstanding, players seem to be mentioned as promising a lot but not many become first teamers. I hope that two or three will do so this year - Nico Jones did seem to have something and unlike a lot of our youth players he isn’t a little shrimp!

It does take time , a manager who trusts and encourages them. We have produced quality in the past ,,Tait, Jeffrey , Wright , Thomas , Brock, Mustoe, Beauchamp, Allen , Ricketts , Whitehead as well as many others. Funnily enough they seem to come when either no other option or a Manager not afraid to play them. They are out there .

It’s yet more bizarre nonsense from the football league, hopefully it’s voted down as it’s unworkable at this notice, you would have to do it in stages if you wanted a hard salary cap not one big swoop like this.

It makes you wonder if the football league wouldn’t rather just run the championship and have leagues one and two go off elsewhere.

But whatever could have given you such an idea!? :sneaky: ?

For pure interest, I had a look what the 3 starting loanees have done since.

Charlie Colkett (loan from Chelsea) - went back to Chelsea. Further loans at Vitesse Arnhem and Shrewsbury. Now at Ostersunds in Sweden.
Fankaty Dabo (loan from Chelsea) - went back to Chelsea and didn't feature, signed by Coventry on a free, 41 appearances this season. Promoted.
Lloyd Jones (loan from Liverpool) - went back to Liverpool, signed by Luton for a small fee, then loaned out to Plymouth and Northampton. Now a free agent.

Pardon me for being a bit thick but most appear to believe that the proposed salary cap is a bad thing. If that's true, why would anyone vote for it on Thursday and if that's the belief, why the panic?
