Ex Player Alex Rodriguez Gorrin

Huh? Surely if hes happy he must be happy with the wages?

He’s happy with the 3 year offer it’s just the wages we’ve offered, he knows he won’t get anywhere near the 8k he’s previously been on at BC & if we’re offering less than half then he’s going to wait to see if there’s a better deal on the table from other bigger clubs who are interested (Portsmouth, Charlton) during the summer before deciding whether to sign

It does depend on where we are yes but also would love to know what they mean with wage cap which could have a huge say on Matty Taylor’s future.

I would imagine any wages would reflect, that most probably, he will be a rotation option

With the current COVID situation and salary caps, the choices available could be limited depending on wages he wants. A lot of footballers are going to have the issue when the season ends.

And with Pompeys strike force would he get much game time?

It looks like Pitman is off, but will he suit their style? Hard to know

Pitman will be off but they still have 5 good strikers so I would hope if Pompey make an offer he ( Taylor ) takes that into account and also take into account his home town club becoming a cult hero at his home town club and help his hometown club progress.

Possibly a bit more, but it wouldn't be loads. they might have a rich owner, but in this current climate they're not going to give huge wages to a player who's never proved himself in the Championship.

Matty has a chance to be a real fan's favourite here and could, in theory, finish his career here. So he has a choice to make: does he continue what he's started here at his hometown club, or does he start all over at Portsmouth for the sake of a few extra quid, where he would probably just be 'another player'?
A few extra quid for a pro footballer could be hundreds of thousands of pounds. Also, Matty started late and so will be looking to maiximise what will be his last big deal.

I should think we are in the driving seat, especially as he has a house here, just need to get into the championship

He can't be more than 90 mins from Portsmouth. I think recruitment will still depend on how much League 1 owners are prepared to dig in their own pockets to fund players. Matty Taylor won't be here next season, although there is nothing more I would want, whether we are in the championship or trying for the play offs again . After what he has achieved this season, clubs with a profile like Pompey, Peterborough and Sunderland have the buying power we can only dream of, and will buy him, offering a much higher wage which is the language Taylor speaks. We were never really in the market for a serious offer on Cadden, offering £250,000, when his club wanted £1million. With our reliance on a cycle of bring in loans, sell best players and then rebuild at the end of the season, unless we get to a point where a board member is prepared to seriously invest in the club, what would a season in the championship look like?

There maybe a possibility that we may get Will Grigg

If that is the case why didn't he just go to one of those clubs last summer?

But the frustrating part about the Cadden fee would like to think he may have said he wanted to come to Oxford and then not sure how it works with a tribunal with international transfers but Columbus have a cheek as he hadn’t played for them and they haven’t even paid Motherwell.

Quite simply because he hadn't shown any form for Bristol City, wasn't anywhere near their first team, so why would a club of the ones mentioned profile spend good money on him.

He really did enjoy his time here and rapport with the fans. If it didn't work out for him in Ohio, I feel we would be his first port of call back in the UK.

I genuinly hope that the current crisis in the game caused by not playing a few games would allow clubs and the game to come to its senses. Given the money already being spent by the selfish greedy top tier and that clubs at our level would be prepared to spend millions, it would appear that in your world this would not be the case. Idiots don't just gather at beaches and raves then, they also appear to be running football clubs.

Clubs have always bought success if they can afford to, that isn't going to change. Some say Bournemouth bought their way into the Premiership, are Peterborough capable of doing the same? I don't quite understand the "in my world part." My world is simply OUFC, I couldn't give a monkeys uncle about what other teams might spend, as I have no control over it.

Your vitriol towards club owners isn't going to change anything. Caps on salaries and transfer fees, and the like as predetermined by the EFL is the only way real change and maybe the redistribution of wealth will happen.

It's hard to get quite do much shite into one post!!

Let's start with the buying power of Sunderland? How much did they spend last season? Because according to transfer transfermarkt.com they didn't pay one transfer fee last season. Despite selling players for over £20m in the last 2 years, they've spent only around £4m on players (and most if that was pissed up the wall on Grigg). They are offloading players from their academy for peanuts having also released players on high wages. This is as close as you will get to a fire sale as SD desperately looks for a buyer to bail him out.
Then Peterborough. They rely on selling big and reinvesting in saleable assets. They're pretty good at it to be fair, and its a model that we are looking to emulate. However, the way the season ended and the uncertainty in transfer values means that they will get a fraction of what they were hoping to bring in. There is no way that they would outbid us for a player who has only one decent move left in them.

Portsmouth have a fighting chance. They were interested in the summer, and are not too far away. If neither team go up it'll be a straight fight between both clubs, but one that I think we'd win. If we go up then MT signs for us 100%. If we don't and Pompey do then he'll probably still sign for us as there are questions about his ability to cut it in the championship.

The Chris Cadden deal didn't go through because Columbus Crew got greedy. We offered £500k but they wanted a million. A further offer was made that I believe was around £600k and also where we would pay to extend the loan until the end of the season. Both were turned down and we stepped away rather than play stupid games.

However, we then showed intent by looking to pay for Stephen O'Donnell despite him being available on a free in the summer and paying a hefty loan fee and big wages to bring in Will Grigg. I said this in January, and both have since come out to confirm this. The money was very much there but our (responsible) owners refused to P**s it away.

The investment, and several million would be classed as fairly serious, is already there. We have a model that brings in young talent to develop and sell on, so we may well sell players this summer. But if you honestly think that plans aren't already in place to add to our squad then you're more deluded than I thought.

Anyway, as has been said many times before on other threads, "you can't teach stupid!"
