Watched Watford v Leicester earlier and barely noticed the unobstrusive background noise . Am now watching Brighton v Arsenal and it's really badly done. Excited cheers when nothing significant is happening and groans about 5 seconds after a shot goes wide etc.

It appears the quality is going to depend on who the home team have as their sound engineer.

I liked the crowd noise celebrating a goal when Brighton had a shot saved.

I'd keep it when there are no crowds as it provides amusing moments like the above when it goes wrong. Plus it breaks the drone of the majority of the commentators.

You are exactly right. In the Norwich game last night, the noises were so late (and occasionally so inappropriate) as to be laughable. They were just distracting.

I've watched a couple of the prem games, and to be honest I thought it was fine. Much better than the empty "training ground" acoustics.

It's worse than listening to the canned laughter on those American so-called comedy shows from the 60's and 70's!

Yes, when it is done properly I agree. But I find it distracting when the noise is very late or inappropriate - once you've noticed it, you can't 'un-notice' it again!

Yeah the disallowed goal for Norwich last night was the moment I couldn't unnotice it again!

A side note - lots of swearing at Fulham v Brentford today. Commentator apologised a number of times

BT Sport's crowd noise seems better than Sky Sports, maybe because it's quiter?

Reminded me of the earliest incarnations of PES on the Playstation where you'd just ballooned one over the bar and then about 10 seconds later Alan Parry comes on with "HOW DID HE MISS!"

The BBC crowd noise is awful, the non-crowd version has a crap picture quality!

think they’ve turned the volume up a bit for the 2nd half

It's pretty rubbish as it's just there and doesn't relate to what is going on with the game. They need to make it more peak and trough (etc) as normal games are - at the moment, it's just white noise for me. I believe other leagues/sports are doing that.
