I’m sorry if this has been covered elsewhere but I’ve been off the forum for a while and cannot seem to find the info anywhere...

how did we vote on how to finish the season? On Twitter last night a lot of neutral fans were saying they’d back Pompey as they were the only club to vote to continue the season out of the four in the playoffs. Is this correct? And Was the vote public? I thought OUFC would have voted to continue, as per this screenshot. can anyone explain? Ta.

That's what I understand as well - only four voted to continue, so Sunderland, Peterborough, Tranmere are definite. Ipswich stabbed the honourable six in the back, presumably so did Fleetwood and us. And apparently one team - might be Bristol Rovers - didn't even vote because they couldn't get an internet connection! That's as bad as not sending the fax.

The only public thing I've seen was 18 voted to curtail the season, 4 voted to finish the full season and 1 didn't vote (rumoured to be Bristol Rovers) due to communication issues in the meeting. Pompey and Peterborough have publically said they voted to continue, I'd assume 2 of Sunderland, Ipswich and Tranmere did as well.

As for what others have said I couldn't care less tbh and their reasoning is pretty redundant anyway. Lg 1 clubs have been trying to thrash out a deal for many weeks and time had come to make a decision. Oxford publically said they wanted to continue but clearly there wasn't a majority to continue the season prior to the day of a vote. On this last point Peterborough very publically (as did Rotherham), on the Sunday iirc, confirm this point saying 15 or 16 clubs wanted to curtail the season and have play offs. Quite frankly how we voted was irrelevant in reality as if we had voted to continue the season it would have made no difference.

Peterborough have failed to attract enough support for playing on throughout those many weeks of threats of legal action and public pressure including from fellow potential play offs contenders and we publically supported that until it was clearly not going to happen.

We voted to end it. Hence why our position went from completing the season to finishing the season on the pitch. Very different meanings. Politics 101.

Thank you all for your clarifications. So in short, we were in support of playing all the remaining fixtures and then didn’t bother voting for that as it was not going to happen.

I guess so. Given our “recent” form playing on the fixtures gave us a chance of auto promotion with play-offs as a fall back though not guaranteed.

Whereas finish now gave us definite play offs. Unless somehow the play offs don’t take place either.

I think they saw it as a chance to get promotion in 3 games, which on paper sounds a lot better than playing 9 games and then possibly a further 3 to get promotion, or even missing out on it all entirely. Because let's be honest, promotion is a more important thing for the club long-term than the importance of finishing 1st or 2nd.

I think if we played the remaining 9 games, we'd have gone up automatically.

I suppose we had to play Pompey anyway, but I never feel confident against Pompey or Fleetwood. (Wycombe all day long) ;)
