International News Covid-19 .....

If you look at the timelines - did this ages ago, they don't correlate, and as further up, the proof of hand shaking in the hospital just isn't there.

It's much more likely that he was infected with Downing St as the likes of Chris Witty got it too.
'It's much more likely that.....' So I'm right, they still don't know?

' ... the proof of hand shaking in the hospital just isn't there'. Are you telling me Johnson lied about shaking hands? What else has he lied about?

I don't know and I don't care in all honesty - we've been over this so many times now...

I'm sure Ryan can give a timeline about it, but yeah, politicians lie or exaggerate the truth.

Why are Serco "dodgy mates"? Do you realise you could open yourself up to legal stuff
Really? Do you actually pay attention outside your bubble? This guy hasn’t been sued in 10 years:

Anyway............... back to this troublesome little virus.

Great post by @PottersRightBoot earlier on about the reality for some.

Antibody test "next week" ........... we`ll see.

Will have a numbers update probably later today, depending if it gets signed off as it is the Friday before a bank holiday and the seniors love a long weekend.

Stay well all of you, stay safe and stay at home!

Yes if I were you I'd probably dip out at this stage.

You started off supporting Johnson and have left admitting (a) he didn't know if he had CV or not when he shook hands in hospital and (b) that in fact he lied about shaking hands in the first place. Who need enemies etc.

Imagine if he had not greeted people ... "That Boris Johnson is a bit stand offish".........."Wouldn`t shake hands with the workers"......
You can bluster as much as you like EY, but there is no way you are going to convince anyone other than a Boris apologist that him telling the world that he proudly shook hands with everyone he met at a hospital that had covid patients, in early March, was a display of the ‘common sense’ that he is expecting from other people. That would be the case even if he hadn’t subsequently been diagnosed with it.

I`m not "blustering" probably being more factual than the twatterati.
Lets surmise Boris (or any other politico) visits our main hospital site.
We have circa 900 beds across a rather large footprint of multiple buildings, alongside all the ancillary stuff like X-Ray, MRI, Outpatients, Hearing Services, Research building, Cyto Genetics...it goes on.
The site has a footprint of 28 acres, roughly 28 football pitches.
The 4 primary building towers go up 6 floors.

When we get "dignitaries" visiting the usual planned route is Chief Execs Corridor (level 3) for meet & greet, then down to Ground floor to access main corridors, up to Level 1 for A&E (its new), across to maternity (babies & happy mummies) through outpatients (meet and greet patients, public) in the car and away.
That takes about 2-3 hours and you have been through less than 10% of the site and haven`t got anywhere near IDU (Where early covid patients would be from late Jan/early Feb).

I very much doubt that the hospital said "Hey Boris, fancy popping into the Infectious Diseases Unit for a meet and greet with these patients that have got that new Sars-Cov-2 virus?" and he happily said absolutely and I`ll shake them by the hand!

If he got it anywhere it was in downing Street or the house of Commons because of people traffic...that`s what spreads it.

There’s a thing in Oz called the pub test. How would people in the pub respond if you said this. The idea that Boris’s actions matched his subsequent expectations of ‘common sense’ of the public fails the pub test hands down.

Your final point raises a bigger point. If it wasn’t a failure of common sense for the pm to consider that he might catch covid at the hospital, it would appear to an even bigger lapse in his, and the hospital’s part, to allow him as a promiscuous handshaker to shake hands with anyone at the hospital.

I have no idea why you are defending this - the rationale just seems to be that Britain’s leadership, and maybe hospitals, were a bit slow to realise that “business as usual”, handshaking etc were a bad idea, therefore their actions were within “common sense”!?!? I’d bet at least 10p that if you got Boris in private and complete confidence he’d say “that was a f*****g stupid thing to do”.

Meanwhile in Oz, the fiscally conservative Liberal govt accidentally overallocated an extra $60 billlion to the Job Keeper scheme (furlough payments for eligible organisations), because people filled in the forms incorrectly. Now that it’s been noted, the govt have cut the scheme back, but everyone is saying “but if it was budgetable before, why can’t it be used to support the previously ineligible organisations like arts organisations, Universities etc?”
There’s nothing like eceonomic rationalists having to resort to socialist measures every time the s**t hits the fan, and then to f**k it up by being overgenerous?

More hope?

On the other hand:

"A new study of nearly 15,000 COVID-19 patients published on Friday in the medical journal The Lancet found those being treated with the antimalarial drugs hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine are at a higher risk of death and irregular heart rhythms than those not receiving it. "

"The proof just isn't there"
"I shook hands with everybody

Edward Argar MP the Minister of State for Health at the Department of Health and Social Care is ex-Head of UK and Europe Public Affairs at Serco, working there until nine months before he was elected MP for Charnwood.

Serco defrauded the prison system of 18 million pounds. or to put it another way 180 Jennifer Arcuris.
KerChing!

I'm a major public figure coming to your hospital during a major Pandemic which we now consider more than just a sniffle. TV are there and there's an opportunity to get an important health message across.

Is the preferred message "this disease is really serious. keep your distance." Or "Shake hands with everyone"?

Numbers........ seniors are knocking off early then!

As at midnight on 21 May 2020

Patients currently being treated for COVID-19: 141

Total patients treated for COVID-19 who have been discharged: 697

Total confirmed and nationally announced deaths positive for COVID-19: 320

Can`t help yourself can you? :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

The facts of the matter are that, even the experts & global organisations like the WHO, had little idea exactly how serious the situation was or would become between January and March.

Describing it as a sniffle with the caveat that it was bad news if you had underlying health issues was pretty much spot on, I know it hurts you to think that.

Look at the timeline.............. https://www.who.int/news-room/detail/27-04-2020-who-timeline---covid-19

31st December 2019: "A novel coronavirus was eventually identified."

10th January: "WHO issued a comprehensive package of technical guidance online with advice to all countries on how to detect, test and manage potential cases, based on what was known about the virus at the time."

14th January: "WHO's technical lead for the response noted in a press briefing there may have been limited human-to-human transmission of the coronavirus (in the 41 confirmed cases), mainly through family members, and that there was a risk of a possible wider outbreak. "

22nd January WHO issued a statement including: "there was evidence of human-to-human transmission in Wuhan but more investigation was needed to understand the full extent of transmission. "

23rd January WHO: The independent members from around the world could not reach a consensus based on the evidence available at the time. They asked to be reconvened within 10 days after receiving more information.

16th - 24th February: WHO: "They spoke with health officials, scientists and health workers in health facilities (maintaining physical distancing)."

February 25th this thread started.................................. WHO activated a range of Clinical Trials. :)

11th March: WHO: "Deeply concerned both by the alarming levels of spread and severity, and by the alarming levels of inaction, WHO made the assessment that COVID-19 can be characterized as a pandemic. "

In April the WHO issued the Strategy update document that reflects what we have done since our lock down began in March.

3rd January WHO: The independent members from around the world could not reach a consensus based on the evidence available at the time. They asked to be reconvened within 10 days after receiving more information.

WHY DO YOU MISS OUT

That WHO declared a Global Public Health Emergency in January 30th -

16th - 24th February: WHO: "They spoke with health officials, scientists and health workers in health facilities (maintaining physical distancing)."
I know you support an incompetent liar who has mismanaged the situation so badly that we have many thousands of unnecessary deaths but the more you lie and distort the time line the bigger fool you look.

No wonder you have such respect for the blonde hand shaker.

Bazzer may get his wish from the Trump thread based on that!!

And since you brought it up again let's remember how you started the thread - THREE AND A HALF WEEKS AFTER THE WHO DECLARED A GLOBAL HEALTH EMERGENCY.

Why all the fuss?

Thousands die from Flu, thousands die from knife & gun crime yet the world is slipping into overdrive for a bit of a snuffle*!

And its creating far too much work for me!! ?

*unless you have underlying health issues or are old.
