How to complete the season

I think the Premier League will make every effort to finish the season behind closed doors, not for any reasons of integrity but purely for money.

Attendances and fans who actually attend games are way down the list for the Premier League, it’s all about money.

TV deals, ridiculous KO times, betting, armchair fans, VAR, these are what matter to the Premier League.££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

We’ve already seen some lower tier leagues void this season’s results, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this extended to the National and EFL.

I suspect some famous historic clubs in the EFL and below not to survive this.

Just can't see why a preferred option given the circumstances for 'voiding' the season. Seems crazy to me that all the records from this season would be struck - so say Henry's 12 goals from 30 games this season deleted. Just a blank mark for this season against every player's name. All those games meaning nothing. If that's the case they're all just reduced to glorified friendlies?

Would much rather see this season finish whenever it needs to finish and next season reduced to one-round of fixtures if required due to time constraints. Failing that would even rather see the rest of the season decided by a pools panel of sorts. Or bloody hell, just simulate it via Football Manager. :D

As someone who has been on the receiving end of a riot or two, can I please ask that you wash your hands before punching me!

Well yes, but given social distancing my punch(es) will not get within two metres of you in any case.

? Helston Athletic were leading their division before the season was made void.

? They'd saved around £6,000 from internal player fines to have a big promotion party.

? With the season cancelled, they've donated all the funds to the local hospital and food bank!

? Great gesture!

Excellent gesture. I love to see these sorts of stories of kindness when there are still a minority that show complete and utter selfishnes.

But £6k!! Christ, they must be a very naughty bunch of boys ?

Somewhere down the line "we" the consumer will have to understand that it`s not really that important in the grander scheme of life.
Petitions are pointless by the time they are completed they will be at the bottom of a fudgin big pile.
A bit like Brexit, make the tough call now so folk know where they are.
The PL can feck off and do wht they like, they are the greedy , hording folk who stripped th shelves bare then ended up binning most of it.
The smaller clubs who have helped their local communities will survive, the game will change and hopefully for the better.
The chances of playing match`s in June/July areslim at best, thats almost into next season then.

Just bin it.

I think it would be better for everyone clubs and players most of all fans to
Just bin this season then we all know where we stand ... the PL are only trying to hold on
To a slim bit of hope because of the pounds sign and oh they don’t want to upset Liverpool who mathematically haven’t won nothing yet

i still prefer what i wrote initially, scrap the play offs and have current positions stand for promotion and adjust relegation accordingly...only club affected are Villa and the Premier league can do what they want anyway so let them sort that one. it's logical, sensible and fair to all.

So for the sake of nine matches outstanding we lose 23 games next season, along with the gate receipts and revenue that brings for the dozens of clubs that depend on it?

This is what I’m talking about. Blindly chasing the rabbit straight in front of a car.

100% agree. It would reduce the legal workload and provide a reasoned and balanced solution to start next season. :)

There was a solution mooted on a football based live stream I saw yesterday that said they should scrap this season now, but start next season with the points carried over. And for any teams who have played less games than others, they should work out their current points per game (we’ve played a big enough percentage of the season across the board to make a claim that it’s pretty fair and reflective), and then add the average accordingly so as to calculate the ‘worth’ of their games in hand.

It isn’t a perfect solution by any means - there simply isn’t one no matter which route they go down - but it’s consistent and doesn’t see the work that has been put in this season completely binned. It’s certainly a better solution than running into a brick wall and worrying about how next season, and in turn half of the clubs in the country, survive after we’ve all clattered into it.

that's surely got some merit

A very good idea, so ..... the EFL will never consider it.

No decision will be perfect, but that’s one of the fairest I’ve seen proposed.

I think whatever happens the same decision has to apply to both PL and EFL, for instance if PL is completed and EFL is voided where do the relegated clubs go with no-one promoted from Championship?

If positions are decided in whatever way without a ball being kicked then the only option the PL and EFL have is to throw money at the clubs adversely affected to avoid legal action, i'd imagine many clubs would take that money happily.
