Potential New Ground

I see it as a very positive sign that we hear nothing. Buying land in and around Oxford is fraught with difficulty. As someone here said, most of the prime land is in the hands of the colleges and they dictate completely what happens within their scope of activity. Politically, the planning is almost as difficult. The two authorities (County and City) have been renowned for making life difficult unless you know which backs to scratch. I said as much to NMcW not so long ago and was greatly surprised by his reaction. I felt at the time that he was overconfident, that may have had some influence and led to both Zaki and Tiger admitting that "news by the end of the season" may have been a mistake.
However, and I have said this before, the impression is that the club is striding forward in building relations with both authorities and with Kassam. The latter must be a very difficult pill to swallow.
I always try to be optimistic about these matters but it is still very unusual for all parties including club, councils and Firoz to be so quiet? Which I like to interpret as positive.

I still wonder if the plan for 28,500 homes south of Grenoble Road may have slowed the new stadium discussions down. They may be waiting on whether the new homes ever come to fruition. 28,500 homes, an average of 2-2.5 people per househould. Potentially 60,000 people suddenly arriving by the Kassam Stadium makes it a more exciting proposition.

Perhaps they are playing a waiting game? Although there may not be time to do so.

I am.not sure that makes any difference to whether Kassam will sell ( if he will at a price that makes sense for the club)
Sure the houses will help crowds but that is totally irrelevant if Kassam wont sell/ wont allow a 4th stand / is difficult over staff getting into the ground etc

Absolutely. I wasn't suggesting Kassam will ever sell, but may have diverted the eyes and attention away of a new stadium for our board members. They may have opened discussions with Kassam regarding the plans, but as you say it's probably a complete waste of time.

28500 houses are not being built at Grenoble Road. That furgure is for the south oxon District as a whole. 5000 houses were mentioned for Grenoble Road.

Stadium accounts are now filed at Companies House but not yet available to view. Will have to see if there are any interesting notes in there.
Will be interesting to see if the charge gets lifted as well!

There’s is no interest in buying the Kassam, never had been under the current regime. What would the money men on our board gain from it?
Apart from Thohir they’re all still here, so that tells you that a new 20,000 stadium at Water Eaton is still on the cards.

The cost of the ground could be covered in 10-15 years so its just finding someone to finance it.

£40million loan to buy land and build stadium

But.....
We would get £2-3million extra a season in gate receipts.
Additional advertising, naming rights.
No £500k-£1m yearly payment to FK for rent/service charge.
Additional income from conference rooms, other events.
All money from bars etc.
If we follow our current model of selling players then £2m-£4m a year made from player sales.

Its not crazy to think we could pay £2m, £3m or £4m a season towards the loan pretty easily.
Add in additional income should we reach the Championship, have a major cup run, sell a player for a huge fee, and paying it off in 10 to 15 years doesn't seem unrealistic.

And all the time Tiger and pals are earning additional money from the hotel, shops, flats, offices they build alongside it.

Staying at GR with Stadium Ownership, but not the land beneath it.
Cost £15 £18 million..... plus building a West stand, filling in the corners with flats.......

Subtle change................ still achievable ;) :D

Even 5000 extra bums on seats would be £1.25m extra a season.
You would hope for that at least otherwise a 20k stadium is pointless

There do seem to be people who still think that Kassam is a reasonable man to deal with.
The evidence from day 1 is that that isnt the case. As somebody else suggested if this is true , the club is in trouble if they cant get a new stadium.
I don’t think I’ve ever met anybody who has said they find FK reasonable or that they think he isn’t that bad of a bloke. But I’ve met a fair few who I happen to agree with that when a man like him has a knife pressed against your balls in one hand, and is shoving a gun in your mouth with the other, that you might want to not purposefully antagonise him and instead try to make sure that he doesn’t slice any sacks or pull any triggers. There’s a huge difference between “I think he’s alright really” and “I think it’s a really bad idea to have him hate us while he holds every last card”.

If I’ve missed some sort of love-in then my apologies, but I’ve never even heard of such a thing let alone witnessed one.

That assumes that we get to.the Championship.
Of course this is a possibility and would be the reason for the new ground, but it is of course assuming that we are in the Championship for that period of time.

Indeed - we are NEVER going to get an extra 5000 people in to watch us play Accrington, Burton and Fleetwood, no matter how shiny the stadium is.

But there is the little issue of the increased budget to be in or stay in the championship, that figure could be larger that a stadium purchase if we stayed there any amount of time.

Not even if those teams were also in the championship? And the extra 5,000 would turn out for Barnsley and Wigan?
