Manager/Coach Karl Robinson - Will he walk

End of the day it is how modern football now works.
No loyalty from the paid employees on relatively short term contracts.
Barely anyone gets much more than a 3-5 year deal.
An "official" approach just leads to an unofficial one if it is turned down.
If "Club Z" offers to double your money with promises of milk & honey most folk take it.

Its the gig economy with a better pay cheque. :)

How many jobs give you a five year contract? It’s actually much more secure than most of our jobs, most people on here would be lucky to get a couple of months pay if they got laid off.

Why would KR want to go to Blackpool apart from a holiday, he's done so much here and has built a very competitive squad that just might give us a shot at promotion this season.
Likely bigger budget, a Board that are looking to invest unlike ours, a potential bigger fanbase and a four-sided stadium that I believe they own.

Oh - and he has lots of family just down the road.

Apart from that...…...

NHS.................................... #job4life (unless you do something cataclysmic-aly stupid you can`t get sacked). :D

They don't have a very good training ground at the moment from what I read on one of their forums. We have invested heavily in ours and KR keeps extolling the virtues of the training ground. The Academy has been heavily invested in with plans to get Cat 2 status and that isn't cheap.

Also, whilst we have sold players, the board have invested otherwise we wouldn't have signed Dickie, Sykes, Moore, Fosu, Whyte, Atkinson, Agyei etc etc or paid decent wages for the likes of Taylor, Browne, Holland etc etc. Also, didn't KR say that Tiger asked him whether the club should match the £1m asking price for Cadden and KR is the one who said no?

We are a selling club and will remain so whether KR is here or not. The trick for me is building a recruitment team that keeps on getting new talent in and they haven't done badly so far considering the squad/players people on here are talking about potentially being gone in the summer (on top of Fosu/Baptiste/Whyte in the last 12 months).

Surprised that nobody seems to have clocked the fact that in his interview last night Robinson said that if there’s been an approach that’s “the second time Blackpool have come in”. It’s right there on the audio at 13:30: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p082fwz0

No club makes an official approach for a manager anymore unless they’ve already spoken to someone from their camp on the sly and essentially gone, “Any point us asking?” and been told there is. They don’t want to be knocked back and made to look silly / small by a manager rejecting them like that. A club rejecting an approach is one thing, a manager saying he doesn’t want to even speak to you is a bad look, so that’s already been established. I also think Blackpool offering money for him shows he is the guy they want. Nathan Jones is on a free so if they were that sure they wanted him there wouldn’t be much need for these shenanigans. If Jones ends up there it won’t be because he was their first choice.

Looking at the squad as of this summer and seeing which loans will have gone back, who is out of contract and who is entering the final year and therefore needs selling before they walk for nothing, I wonder if he’s looking a few months ahead and going, “Not a chance am I going to sort all this out.” Good time to leave, this, before the proverbial hits the fan and while the team has had a couple of nights on the telly, some cup runs and is on a streak in the league. Gives him a great opportunity to look like he was holding everything together when in reality, even if he stayed the players going back / leaving / running their deals down would’ve still been the case. In terms of windows of opportunity, the next few days are perfect for him. However the more he talks and shakes his tits at another club, the less I think he’s able to stay, regardless of wanting to. There’s a rather fine line and it very quickly goes from “Please don’t leave me” to “I’m not going to have you publicly belittling me like this”.

I think he’s more likely to leave after Saturday than before it, if it goes ahead. I don’t think he would be able to resist one last audience and microphone.

Does that end it?
Hopefully unless he resigns

No it doesn’t. At no point are Tiger or the board going to come out and say that KR has their blessing to talk with Blackpool - not in the first round of negotiations anyway.

It may be that KR forces their hand by saying he wants to talk and if that’s the case, it would then be unlikely the Board retain this approach of declining him the chance to speak with B’pool.

It could well be a compensation maximising exercise currently and an attempt to save a little face from our illustrious leader.

I think it would have ended speculation if they had also had a quote from KR on there dispelling the rumour.

He will have to resign to go.
Then he can join Blackpool only when the compensation is sorted.
I would think that the club will play pretty hard ball on this.

There's no way kr is staying after his interview last night... the bit that quite annoyed me was that he said he'd have to wait to hear what the boards plans are before coming in front of the media and saying he loves oxford and wants to stay. Shows his whole reign is just staged which is a shame cos he actually won me over! The main worry is that he says he doesn't know what the boards plans are... I mean come on, either Tiger or KR have messed up if this is the case.

We all know that Karl wears his heart on his sleeve and this is the type of situation where it does nobody any favours. I just hope that it all blows over quickly so he can fully concentrate again on getting us into the playoffs, or better.
