National News The Brexit Thread 🇬🇧🇪🇺

So he is supposed to remember from when he was baby where/when he was born? What if his parents told him the info he supplied, why would he doubt that?

From the same article, he had no knowledge the passport shouldn't be used as Home Office incompetence meant the letter explaining this was sent to the wrong address. He should be allowed back in and then the issue dealt with through the appropriate systems in this country, rather than making somebody homeless/stateless in Belgium after the Home Office f**ked up the address for the letter.
But they are busy, maybe too busy spaffing taxpayers money....after all theyre building a bridge, and hs2 hi speed railway, and of course..... getting ..... Brexit .....done
Far to much important stuff to bother with one of them 'foreigners' :cautious:

1. You have a birth certificate? I do. If you haven`t you realise PDQ in your adult life you need one so get a copy.
2. He moved and didn`t update his information/redirect his post? Why is that? I`ve moved 6 times in 30 years and everyone who needs to knows where I am.

Two sides to every issue and it isn`t always the system`s fault.

1. What if his parents never got one or lost it from Serbia/Albania wherever? The Home Office accepted the information he gave originally so maybe a birth certificate was included as he was naturalised as a British citizen.
2. So let him back in as he had no notification and go through the appropriate procedures rather than use a sledgehammer approach and make somebody homeless in another country in Winter when he isn't a threat to national security or anything like that.

@Marked Ox maybe there is EU legislation/process that prevent`s him leaving Belgium? I don`t know.
Both Albania & Serbia issue birth certificate`s and I`m amazed he has bumbled through life without one!
Either way we only know part of the story and I`m sure it will get resolved.
It`s one of the issue`s with a "Yes/No" type of system...no flexibility.

He was naturalised as a British Citizen in this country so probably had a birth certificate as part of the process. As he was naturalised, the system should have flexibility to go through the full legal process* but the Home Office and this Govt have shown disdain for the legal process with their full on "hostile environment" mode. The Govt could easily allow him back into the country.

*As we do have the rule of law after all and yet this Govt and the previous Tory Govts had the cheek to criticise Iran for its legal process.

Javid has resigned as chancellor (bojo wants control of the treasury its being reported)....Cummings insisted Javid reported to him! .....Sanak installed as the new ( tame ,compliant & controlled by Cummings) chancellor

The biggest loss is Julian Smith - did a great job in the political naughty corner of NI in a short time. A strange removal.

Javid is an interesting one. Talk on the street is that this could have been a convenient way to move him on without sacking him. Regardless, fair play to Javid to sticking to his principles and they have stitched up Sunak by leaving it that late.

The joy at McVey being sacked could be seen as sexist - but apparently she deserves it!

Have to love the Cummings conspiracy yet nobody ever mentioned Campbell when Blair et al were around.......

Javid seemed to think he was on a par with Boris and was reminded who was boss.

You are either for the country and thinking positively or you are keeping the back bench`s warm.

Getting it done. ? (y)

It isn't a conspiracy with Cummings, have you seen how he has tried to limit access to the press?

We're all dying to know what it is, and how we will know when it has been delivered.

Judging by Boris' track record on delivery, I am expecting it to be thoroughly underwhelming and completely half-arsed.

Government officials and lawyers are at this very moment trying desperately to work out the detail of Boris' vacuous rhetoric and make it into something that will actually be deliverable, legal and tangible. I do not envy them one little bit trying to make a silk purse out of that sows ear.

Difference was (and is) Campbell was a Labour party member.....Cummings is not a member of the Tory party ( he appears to be just a pupeteer?)

I expect money wasted on a pie in the sky bridge (foliage optional) and some metal bought that will be sold as scrap (probably the Steel for the non-existent bridge).

Agree absolutely with this - the guy was effective, and was either well-liked or at least respected by all the major parties in Northern Ireland and the Republic.
Combining this with the Withdrawal Agreement that cuts Northern Ireland off from the rest of the union.......he really is doing his best to P**s everyone in Northern Ireland off. Maybe he actually secretly is in favour of reunification?

Also, I've never heard of Rishi Sunak before today. Am I ignorant and out-of-touch, or is he really as politically green as he appears?
Still, PPE at Oxford; Goldman Sachs; Manager at various hedge funds.......he certainly fits the current Tory profile!

Sunak 'stood in' for Bojo in a couple of televised debates in the run it to the GE .......a Cummings trained right wing tory clone IMO

Sunak is very articulate and looks to be going places.Leadsom going was no surprise.
I like the way the Daily Mail predicted correctly who was going although they didn’t expect Javid to go

Erm, so they didn't predict correctly then? Just got some of it right?

Edit: just seen that he resigned, I presume that's what you were referring to... I'll get my coat... ?

I haven't read the reason why Julian Smith may have been moved on. Seems a strange one?

The talk is he got on the wrong side of Downing St getting Stormont up and running - took decisions and offered things that weren't in his purview. However, he was so competent at his job, there are other ways to control him,
