Away Match Day Thread +++ 11/02/20 Burton Albion v OUFC +++

What was his point? I missed it
They had planned to bring him on after 60 mins to get behind the Burton back 4 by playing him on the right, so good management from KR. Further, he scored (good) but that was all he did and he made little impact elsewhere.

Pleased for the kid, but the obsession some have with him is a bit, well, strange

That’s it Saturday I’m staying in the pool scored 2 goals while I was cooling off. No need to order the s**t on the grass cocktail either. Just seen it all they have set up a poker table in the pool now. What an amazing place this is. COYY

Yes I agree. The trouble is he is being built up to be the messiah by some and he is probably under more pressure than he should be under.

Tonight showed why we realistically aren't a top six side. Not enough depth, too many players injured or unfit within what is available... we chose to set fire to our momentum and decided we had enough in the bank to stick, finish nice and comfortably mid table and not have to worry until the summer. Burton are no great shakes - real promotion contenders win that match tonight. Simple as that.

Good to see Karl ducking out of praising Agyei again just now. Nathan mentioning Agyei and Taylor getting the goals being a nice bonus and Robinson choosing to focus solely on Taylor's goal and then moving on. Well done again, Karl, you sulky little child.

I think I prefer the posts of UncleKip & Bazzer to those of the posters who write such utter B*ll***s about KR and Agyei.

Last seven league games are won one, drawn three and lost three. That's six points out of a possible twenty one. Relegation form, no getting away from it. With all the injuries ( and now Gorrin's suspension) we field a rag tag collection of players (many not match fit) each game. The picture does not look good.

Quick player ratings (I missed the first 10 minutes of the game)

Eastwood: 5 - Awful goal kick for their first goal. Made one good save, didn’t have too much else to do. A bit hesitant to come off his line maybe at times?

Long: 4 - Absolutely done for their second goal, and gave the ball away a few times with hopeful punts forwards. Not great crosses either.

Dickie: 6 - I actually wasn’t too impressed, he gave the ball away at one point which led to a Burton chance which could easily have been a goal. Still good overall but not quite his unusual self

Mousinho: 6.5 - I thought he just shaded it out of the two centre backs

Ruffels: 6.5 - Pretty average, needs to put better crosses in

Kelly: 3 - Looked way off it, maybe was carrying an injury?

Brannigan: 7 - Real performance of two halves. Started off a 4 and ended the game an 8. Talk about growing into the game. He’s so so good when he plays like he did towards the end.

Henry: 6.5 - Showed flashes and glimpses of what he can do, but not quite there yet.

Sykes: 6 - Worked hard but it didn’t quite come off for him.

Holland: 5.5 - He had the ball so often, and so much space down the left hand side, but he just couldn’t seem to beat his man or do anything with it. Kept cutting inside but there was no end product

Taylor: 6.5 - Weird performance, did some things well and some things poorly. Always dangerous though and has goals in him

Subs:

Gorrin: 6.5 - He was fine, didn’t play at his best.

Agyei: 8 - Scored the goal using his pace, laid the ball off well, won a booking with his pace. One mishit cross which went out was the only mistake he made

Forde: 6 - Didn’t really have much time, interesting to see it he can play RB

To come back from a goal down twice to rescue a point shows we still have determination, and hopefully it will give us some confidence for some big games coming up.

So why didn’t he come on against Peterborough? It’s one thing saying he’s just good enough to be a sub - fine, but he’s not even getting on every game.

Even when coming on and scoring, people want to have a go at him. Did nothing? I counted one time he got the ball and made a mistake (misshit a cross straight out of play). Every other time he made a pass or did something positive. Compare that to Holland, who gave the ball away multiple times. Yet that isn’t mentioned.

Tonight was always going to be a tough gig for various reasons but we gained a point and move on.

Up the U's!
