With the recent departures, injuries and slump in form, the likelihood of promotion (at least automatically) is getting slimer. This could ultimately mean we struggle to keep hold of Dickie and Brannigan in the summer, the loanies return, and we end up with a skeleton squad again come the summer.
Therefore as a club, how do we move on from here. Do we take a gamble and offer new "big contracts" to our best players and perhaps current loan players to keep the core of a team, or do we play the selling game again and hope we once again unearth some gems to keep us competitive in the league next year.
I know we aren't the biggest club in the league, but from an ambition perspective it would be nice to believe we are planning for the Championship.

To be honest I think we should keep on doing what we’ve been doing. It puts a higher probability of us going up if everything sticks than it does of us going down if it turns to s**t. Playing the percentages over a few years will work to our advantage rather than boom-bust.

This is our squad, come season end:

Eastwood
Long
Mous
Dickie
Moore
Ruffels
Jones
Atkinson
Gorrin
Thorne
Henry
Sykes
Brannagan
Agyei
Mackie

Not exactly lacking in quality, when you look at it like that. I do however agree that it would require a degree of rebuilding. I would like to think the club would use the Baptiste & Fosu money to offer Dickie, Brannagan and Browne deals.

Did this the other day. A decent look at where the squad will be come the end of the season. A run at play offs will important for Dickie/Brannagan/Sykes.

(Also, missed out that Ruffels has an option)

Numerous out of contract players in that list who you can’t count. Long, Mackie, Mousinho, Thorne - plus Brannagan and Dickie will have 12 months left so need selling, Eastwood is unlikely to want to carry on living away from his family when it’s already affecting him so badly...

As it stands we are not ready for the championship as a club, it's a big leap.

We are a quite small provincial club that plays in a footballing backwater, we do not own our ground and have very few revenue streams.

I am not saying that to knock our club or have a go, it's the reality of where we are.

We have been doing fantastic and long may it continue, but we are still a bit short of being a championship side.

Still take promotion

But if we’re a small provincial club in a football backwater, won’t we always be short of being a championship side?

No, it is what it is, but we just don't have the infrastructure to survive at that level just now. I hope we can see that change in the future..

All hinges on ground ownership. They should bite the bullet and buy Grenoble Road for the £13M. Then if we got to the championship they could get their money back by selling us to the bigger fish who wants to own a nice Championship club (with its own stadium), someone with enough money to tempt FK to sell the rest of the complex.

100%. Show`s ambition, commitment etc and is loose change for them!

Sadly there is no return for them against a "Brand Oxford" retail complex and you're asking a board to shell out 13m + on the ground and then "invest" in the playing side to enable opportunity to reach the Championship when events of the last few weeks have shown that is a non runner..Even if/once Brand Oxford is off and running there is no evidence to suggest they would fund the playing side sufficiently or even hang around once their money starts rolling in from the other outlets.

Excellent starting post for a nice game of "Challenge @Scotchegg "!
