General Jan transfer window

Our most important outfield players are Brannagan, Dickie, Gorrin and Henry. TBH our promotion chances depend far more on Brannagan than anything else, he is a different class and makes the whole team better. Even if we do nothing more I'm OK with it, Browne can make a big difference as well. However if we're able to spend some of the money on getting Cadden back then it's a big win as far as this season goes.

I don't really get the outrage with Baptiste. While I can see he has great potential he has played a handful of games and managed to be pretty inconsistent in those. In a lot of ways it's not the best move for him as more than anything he needs first team football to develop. However I'm sure the contract is very lucrative, he's already had injuries, and he needs to take the money when it's offered.

Yep. A club of similar size to us in so many ways but getting everything so right. I suppose the stadium is key though..
We have/had the pote
Gavin Whyte, Shandon Baptiste and Tariq Fosu have sold for collectively around £7m having cost us around £300k in total.

It's only a few weeks ago that some were calling for Fosu to be dropped with him going off the boil, and as fantastic as Baptiste is, we have an embarrassment of riches in that position.

As Robinson says, no one will be happy with them leaving, especially so late in the window but let's see where we are in May before condemning everyone involved with the club.
Where we are in May? , I think it,s probably clear to most where we will be, even you must see that right?

Why is national media stating 3 mill for both Fosu and Baptiste then? If your saying Baptiste went for around 4 mill?
Scotch Egg always does this, it gets a bit tiresome. The Brentford official statement and all relevant media state £3million. If Fosu is £750k there is absolutely no permutation of add-ons that could bring Baptiste up to £4 million.
Some posters on here are pretty dismissive of Fosu. We were all delighted with his form during our great run. He's had a dip, but he's shown he's got plenty to offer.

Because buying clubs like to down play the cost to keep expectations down, selling clubs like to down play the cost so they don't get rinsed when looking at replacements, and national media like an easy story. "Undisclosed but in the region of £3m" meets everyone's needs but is lower than the actual deal.

Championship teams are not motivated to keep the price low in the media. That division is increasingly awash with cash as everyone knows.

You are taking an extremely lop sided view in the presence of the same info as everyone else.

Agree with all of this but maybe just maybe the last part.

We signed Browne, Kelly and Holland before hand so we must have known we’d lose someone. We’d have quite a large squad otherwise. Maybe they were the backups we signed because we knew Fosu would go.
It's the fact we can't maximise the revenue we have to sign another player or 2 without rushing the deal through in the hope it's the right one. Even another 24 hours would give a bit more breathing space - such as a RB or LB or another Striker. It's not ideal preparation, but I am excited to see what Kelly can do for us too.

Surely if it was £2.5m he would have said so. It makes my point again, don't inflate the price up front with potential add ons.
Surely if it was £2m he wouldn't have said more than 2 mill? It's often in everyone's interest to downplay the true value of a deal, and this was the case in the summer, and it is the same now.

Who comes in tomorrow? A striker? A winger? A right back? All half decent then I’m happy if we have add on’s ect

You can spin it every way you want. National press are reporting 3mill. Ill choose to believe them.

Forum has gone to pot again.

Brentford is a good destination for Shandon if we have a clause attached (I assume we must). They regularly sell on for big bucks, and might even be in the Premier League next season.

Meanwhile, we have Holland, Browne and Kelly as ready made replacements. No issues with the sales. I doubt it's 3 million, it's been let out as a rumour as it probably would have been the starting bid.

The squad we have, even with those gone, is easily among the best in the league. Woodburn back in 3 weeks as well, hopefully.

I'm sure we'll throw ourselves into the Deadline Day tomorrow with a good idea of what we want and what we're prepared to pay for it.

Please calm down folks. Let's at least get a few games played before we call for heads to roll.

I'm not pissed off Baptiste and Fosu have been sold, I would rather both of them being sold than Dickie and Brannagan. Its more the timing and the comment they won't be investing this window to improve are squad. If they come out and said we will be working are socks off tomorrow to get deals through, then half of this forum wouldn't be in the meltdown it is.

The most alarming thing for me was that it didn’t sound like there would be incomings tomorrow. Robbo said Grigg was unlikely and the other player we had bid for had turned us down. He also said it wasn’t really the time to invest in players so looks like another loan or two at best.

Exactly this.

Fact of life for a club of our stature letting our best players go for less than they’re probably worth. We have to stay sustainable financially.
Baptiste has yet to fulfill his potential and is injury prone so not a direct loss to us. I think Browne and Holland are players are seen as players of greater potential than certainly Fosu
(In fairness to Fosu a lot was asked of him during our injury crisis)

I’d be a lot more cheesed off if it was Dickie and Brannagan who were the ones sold
I don,t care if the club do think Browne and Holland have better potential, we don,t own them!!!
