Is it just me or have changed style since the Rotherham game.

I have noticed that Simon Eastwood is kicking long rather than rolling the ball out to the Centre backs who then bring the ball out or pass it through midfield.

Not once against Newcastle did we do this and in the previous games against Gillingham,Ipswich and Rotherham it was similar.

This could be because Brannagan is out and Cadden has gone and they were two good outlets.or other teams now press us and stop us from doing this.

I always feel we have looked really good playing it out and wondered why there has been a change because by kicking long we don’t have the sort of forward who is able to win balls in the air

Anybody got any ideas

More than one way to skin a cat, I`ve always thought playing out from the keeper is more likely to create unnecessary risk against a sharp/fast team.
I guess it saves energy and spreads the game out making more space..... I`m no football manager BTW!
Mixing it up is the way to go, keep them guessing.

Rotherham marked Dickie, Moore and Gorrin at goal-kicks, which meant we had to play it longer than we wanted to. I believe this had a massive effect on the way we played and contributed to our defeat.

I wouldn't be surprised if other teams noticed this and do something similar so we have had to adjust.

I think most teams have seen what we we do so are putting three men round the edge of the box. Makes it too difficult and risky. But should mean that there's more space further up the pitch.
Of course agree that mixing it up makes sense.

Opposition Teams seem to be no longer happy to let us play out from the back.
Having seen us dictate play like this in the first half of the season.

The question is, how best to counter that? Thumping it long to Taylor/Mackie isn't going to solve it. The key is how quickly can we get solid possession so we can pass it about.

Burton Albion did it to us back in August as well, I was surprised more teams didn't copy them then. But you can't mix it up if one avenue's been closed off and no - we don't seem to have an answer to it. We need one.
