General Jan transfer window

If Eastwood has a knock?
If Eastwood is injured who would you play?
Some ridiculous comments on here.

One game, two games, it could be costly, as there's a fine line at the moment between us and other clubs closing the gap into the play offs.
Not a ridiculous comment at all. What we have needed for a long time is genuine competition for Eastwood, so if these situations arise there is peace of minds for fans and management. Archer could have been that person, especially if then Eastwood follows his family up north.

Apparently Brannigan and Eastwood both have the same type of knee injury. Its already been announced that Brannigan is still having problems with pain in his knee so I wouldnt be surprised if Eastwood is also still having problems. I think saturday showed they were both brought back in too soon. If Stevens needs to step up for a few games he’ll need all the support we can give him during this important period.
I watched Easty carefully at the start of the game. He did wince a bit after the first couple of kicks. Took my eye off the ball then!!

How many teams in league 1 have 2 established and experienced goal keepers? Most have a first choice keeper and a young back up. Statistical injuries to goal keepers are fairly rare and experienced keepers do not want to be sat on the bench for the whole season.

Archer apparently had other arrangements. Maybe we did try to keep him for another couple of games?
Personally I would prefer to get somebody better than Archer if Eastwood moves up North.
Stevens surely has to be seen as competent to keep on the first team for a couple of games or why even gave him?
The suggestion that it would be an awful selection by KR if Stevens plays tomorrow and if Eastwood is not fit enough, in my view is odd.

None would be my guess (and the experienced back ups would include keepers like Scott Shearer)

I’m gonna chuck a name out there who’s today’s been linked with Swindon.

Will Grigg

Transfer listed by Sunderland. We need a striker to give Taylor competition. Played for Robinson before and scored goals. Tried signing him before he went Sunderland.

Applauded off by SSL when substituted by Wigan

Great player. Just because he’s failed at Sunderland doesn’t make him a bad player. I’d take him all day as a 2nd striker to Taylor. Maybe SD could do us a nice deal seeing as they need to offload to sign Boyce from Burton.

Can't see Sunderland letting him go to a rival. He'll probably go to Salford.

So why didnt we extend Archer?
I think its in the rules that any extension would have had to have been until the end of the season, and we couldn't just keep him for a few more weeks. Won't be too impressed if he doesn't have something else lined up though, and we didn't at least try to extend.

Everyone says that Stevens does not have the experience, how does he get it if we never play him. This is also Eastwood's fault as he always insists on playing every game , so Jack does not even get a chance in the Micky Mouse cup which is where he would get this experience. Possibly because Eastwood does not have enough confidence in himself and does not want the competition.

Exactly Grigg was unbelievable 2 seasons ago for Wigan in that 7-0 battering & was for MK & Brentford when they were in League 1, Sunderland main problem over the last 18 months has been there creativity in the midfield none of there strikers have been high scoring in that period bar Maja for half a season who left to play in France, with our central midfield of Brannagan, Baptiste, Kelly, Henry plus our Wingers we’ll create enough chances for Grigg I think

plus Boyce would be a big upgrade on Mackie

Grigg would be a fantastic signing for the club. Genuine competition up front.

Cant see it happening however.

I may have this wrong so am happy to be corrected, but I believe RadOx said that any new arrangement with Archer would involve him signing on for a month which would take a deal with him to conclude outside of the transfer window if we didn’t want to take it any further. Since he’s looking for a longer term deal, signing up with us in the short term when a long term deal is in the offing would be a poor move.

That said, I would have thought he would be a free agent again and be able to sign up with whoever he likes should he have stayed with us for that extra month, but perhaps the admin of it is more complex than first thought. Anyhow, he supposedly had an offer from up in Scotland so was never his deal with us anything more than a short term one.

To be able to sign for anyone else, Archer had to be released and therefore gain the status of a "free agent" inside the January transfer window.

I presume a week by week contract following expiry of his initial short term deal wasn't suitable for all parties hence why he left immediately. And there is a suggestion he has a club sorted already
