Manager/Coach Robbo charged by the FA

Is "Well I was right to be using improper language towards the ref because he was, of all the incompetent buffoons we have had lately, clearly and by miles the worst of a bad bunch" a workable defence?

Maybe not - but it's the truth!

Oh blimey. Pot calling the Kettle, cack! This will be interesting...

Regarding the charge, as much as I love his passion and also understand his frustrations with the standard of officiating at this level, we cannot afford him to be suspended at a time like this; especially given the injuries we have, at the moment!

I'm already looking forward to Karl's post match interview, this weekend.

Trevor Kettle - and I was looking forward to Saturday's match...…..

I suspect we won't get to know what KR said to the official but let's also not assume he wasn't out of order. It was probably just swears but he's a passionate man and let's face it can speak without engaging brain. If he made some sort of threat, then the charge is justified. However, we'll likely never know the actual words.

KR will deserve punishment if he has said something but the refs performance should be held in to account. I doubt anyone ever looks back at these inept individual displays.

I wonder if the old boys club at the FA ever look at referees. I doubt it very much, as Kettle is still getting regular games and he’s been consistently bad for over a decade. Dr Ben Toner was back in action just 3 days later after his serious misjudgement, letting the game continue with Mackie receiving a head injury and bleeding in the Oxford v Pompey game,

Well he spoke the truth and the hierarchy don't like that. I hope he gets a touch line ban but only because I can never work out how a manager to see the whole picture from the dug out. Come and join us in the stand at MK Karl.

Charged by the FA....................................................................... for agreeing with 6,600 or so other people?

I`ve seen some ineffective referees over the years, and really don`t like "ref-bashing", but if he had got a grip of the niggly time wasting, petulance and petty fouls early on the game would have been completely different.

His 'response' should be getting the video analysts to send the FA a 90 minute video of the game ask them to watch it, then get the FA to apologise and prepare the paperwork for 5.30pm on Saturday when KR speaks about Mr Kettles performance!!!

The officials have the opportunity to deal with matters such as these at the time it occurs by issuing a yellow or red card. If he had given a yellow or red card at the time we would have had no complaints and we would be frustrated with KR for letting his gob run away again and we could not question why the referee had done it and the punishment issued to KR would be perfectly valid. The charge indicates that the offence was a bookable offence. So unless a card has been issued this charge should be thrown out straight away. I certainly didn't see one issued during the game. Cards can still be issued after the game to players or managers so if the card was issued then that is fine, but no one has said this is the case. The excuse of the ref forgetting to book him should not be a valid reason to enable the FA to pursue the charge, instead they should be looking at the ref and asking him why he didn't issue a card. If the charge is dropped or not proven scrutiny should be reversed back to the referee and he needs to be made accountable. Feels like something spiteful to make sure KR is not on the touchline or in the stadium for the Man C game.

Robbo was booked at Walsall IIRC? If the authorities give him a retrospective yellow for Shrewsbury (can they do that?) is there some sort of 'totting up' or (if he is found 'guilty') would he just get a one-match touchline ban?

Robbo has until Friday to respond to an FA charge of threatening and/or insulting and/pr improper language towards a match official on Saturday...

And who is our ref on Saturday against MK Dongs..... Mr KETTLE!

no booking though .... like there wasnt for the rib breaking, lung puncturing challenge on Forde, nor for a multitude of dangerous fouls on Fosu ... and there were few bookings for time-wasting either & none kicking the ball away constantly ... incompetent, incapable referees are the problem in English football, certainly at L1 &L2 level , yet the EFL and (do)FA refuse to address that fact

No matter how many times the FA punish managers for getting angry with the officials, even if KR did cross a line in the FA's rules, they still fail time and time again to address the actual issue, the P**s poor officiating in the lower leagues, if it's this bad in league one and two, god knows what it's like in non league

That's not really what he has been charged with.

The charge is: "behaviour and/or language towards a match official ... was threatening and/or abusive and/or insulting and/or improper".

Saying that you think the ref is incompetent is one thing but if you call them a corrupt **** is another. The charge is about the way it was expressed.

(NB I do not know what words were exchange in the incident, I am just using an extreme example to highlight the point)

surprised the brain dead oaf could hear anything when walking off the pitch, given the cacophany of real abuse he had aimed at him and ringing in his ears, from the many who had paid to watch a game of football played to FA rules, but were robbed of any entertainment by his feeble attempts of officiating and failure to punish time wasting, kicking the ball away , cynical fouls and his failure to apply FA rules correctly

Of course you are right we don't know. Abusive could be 'ref you are effing useless', threatening could be 'I will kneecap you if you miss yet another foul on Fosu', who on earth knows what 'improper' means in this context? 'Ref you are a big girls blouse'? 'I think Shrewsbury have given you a bung'? Could be anything, I suppose. Robinson is a vocal man, but not a stupid one. He won't have done the latter.

Weve 'lost' several players to seious fouls this season so far, none of them were given any protection by the so called officials in those games... certainly the team handed job by Peterborough on Nappa and similar on Forde by Shrewsbury even had a talking to by the unfit for purpose referees , not even any action taken retrospectively by EFL/ FA for really dangerous play

KR is vocally protective of all his players, especially the younger ones ... as he should be

@Left Wing Cross yup, I get that.

The thing is that the FA should review ALL the evidence, including the referees general ineptitude throughout the game, which would have driven anyone to the edge of abuse.
I understand that officials need protecting as well, and KR`s choice of words might be poor, but isn`t that more of a case for providing either education or an avenue for mangers to be able to complain about poor refereeing?
I`m not sure how it works in referee/FA/Manager world but giving the manager little more than 48 hours to respond doesn`t seem right in my book.

These are important points and it is easy to see why KR gets angry and frustrated, which could result in a outburst/confrontation at the end of a game. There is little suggestion that there is a process in place to register displeasure with officials during/post-match beyond shouting at them. KR shouldn't feel that he HAS to rebuke the refs for a poor performance but what other option are there to him? There seems little avenue to diffuse these situations.

The performance of referees seem to be irrelevant to the authorities (from the outside) and they appear to be more interested in keeping referees protected from outside criticism. This can be understandable when it comes to perennial managerial ref-bashers who use it as an excuse to mask poor performances but this has resulted in a complete lack of transparency and an erosion of trust.
