Fan's View - Bristol Rovers

A tough day at the office, but who knows, maybe another upswing on Tuesday. Thank you for the report.

I still hold the view that the football was better than under clothead but, the result was the same. And it does stink.

And here we are looking to next season for some sort of inspiration. May the football Gods have mercy on us.

I don’t think your brother will be too wrong re: players who be here next season. I think we’re going to see massive changes to the squad this Summer - in part due to sales, and also due to poorly managing contracts. Rothwell, Hall, Martin, Mehmeti, Williamson, Shearer and Tiendalli are all out of contract. Who re-signs? Who knows! But chances are greedy bastard agents will play an unwelcome part in the narrative. Then we have players of value like Ledson, Eastwood and Nelson that are entering the final year of their contracts (Exp. June 2019) so the club might sell, rather than risk losing them for nothing, if they can’t persuade the players to extend their current deals. I don’t understand why this hasn’t been made a priority sooner to be honest.

I am grateful for everything Darryl has done, but think if he’s going to keep openly stating his personal ambition of promotion to the Championship, then he has to back up those words during the Summer. He will have 2 seasons experience in this league by then, so will have a better idea of what kind of investment is needed to have more chance of success. Then it will be down to the players and manager to perform.

For clarity, I’m perfectly happy being a League One club as long as we play decent, entertaining football, and as long as we show some fighting spirit; a bit of pride in the shirt! I don’t think that’s too much to ask personally.

Anyway, good read. Cheers.

I'm happy in L1 - would have to remortgage for a Championship season ticket if Darryl is investing for promotion...:D

Thanks Paul spot on again, lets hope its not a blank FV for the Rotherham game but after Saturday I'm not hopeful. I am not of the veiw that players heading out of contract have been ignored, the club stated in the autumn it was trying to secure extended contracts only Josh Ruffles extended, it seems the others have decided not to do so. At the moment the summer looks like a complete rebuild for someone, owner and manager whoever that may be. I'm starting to think we will never see Pekalski in yellow he is confirming his injury prone career to date, I hope to be wrong because desperately need something else in midfield.

Hard but fair FV.

Two tough games to come, Rotherham away followed by in form Argyle at home.

We could easily travel to Northampton with nil points from nine. Worrying.

Off the pitch the sightings of Thai business men suggest a takeover is still in the offing, all very unsettling & not helpful.

I’m trying to move on, but losing Appleton and seeing the break-up of his team and the potential it had is very disheartening.

Great read as always Paul.

I said to my son that we had scored too early and I genuinely meant it. Rovers are a decent side on a decent run with good away support. They would inevitably come at us hard and so we had two options, push back or try and defend the lead. I think in the first half we didn't do too badly in this regard.

The 2nd half was a different story. Who knows what Faz said to the team at half time, but they came out and collectively forgot how to hold on to the ball, as Rovers pressed us hard. It was classic "clear it out" rather than cool heads, and the ball was constantly given up easily.

I think the analysis Faz gave in his RadOx interview was fair. I do like listening to him. Whether or not he ends up as manager he oozes experience and maturity when he speaks.

I disagree with your comments on Faz. After the Charlton game he should not have been 100% on to be manager, and after Rovers he should not be 100% off. Managers are not as good as their last game. As an intelligent fan I'm sure you can be more analytical than that. Maybe after you've cheered up? ?

Accurate & depressing Paul. Your brother's comments about .."who is going to be here next season" should also include "how many fans are going to be here" as well, because there is no doubting a real 'low' amongst those I speak to. In fact I witnessed a bloke who I have been seeing at home matches for many seasons actually giving his season ticket away in the bar afterwards!!

That was kind of what i was getting at. Picking up on what others had said particularly after the Charlton win. I didn't make that clear though. Being honest I really don't know what we should do for the best. I just want someone (Faz or A.N other) to get us enough points to stay up.

Given we need about ten points from 15 games to stay up, do you think it's really that bad?

Looking at our "5 game block" stats, we would need to fall off a cliff to get only say 9 more points.

The worst spells we have had all season are 2 x 4 point blocks, and the block which saw Pep leave was astonishingly a 9 point block.

We would need to have 3 x 3 point blocks or similar to miss out on 51 points. Seems unlikely??

I don't want to sound complacent but hopefully we're appointing someone to take us up next season rather than save us in this one. I believe Faz is quite capable of keeping us up. You could argue that if we plod along at our current rate, that might be safer than rolling the dice with a new manager?

The breaking up of MA team was in progress while he was still here, we might have missed a transfer target or two, but everyone who left was going to leave even if Appleton was here, money was the issue for most of them.

I disagree. I reckon the second half was as bad as anything I have seen this season barring the Wigan game.

And why 'Clothead'? Calling people names is just a little childish?

Oh dear! Guilty as charged m'lud. Should have said dickhead Clotet. How's that?
