Time to bring back some old songs?

There is no doubt we have no decent songs anymore and we just rely on the generic stuff most fans sing apart from the mundane yellow yellows..

What old songs could we bring back that could still be sung these days, honest question?

Some that spring to mind for me is:

Oh Oxfordshire is wonderful, we know the rest...

Cup games: she wore a yellow ribbon

My old man said be a Swindon fan....

What was that bonfire song again that mentions both the swine and Reading, forgotten it?

Chim chiminy...

Was just sitting trying to remember a few, surely some could make an appearance to liven things up?

Totally agree, I've said this before, a lot of the newer songs are far too complicated and its difficult for the uninitiated to join in.. Feels a lot more like x-craptor than fan chants most of the time.

I know it's not politically correct, but my favourite used to be the Gary Glitter, C'mon C'mon... chant in the 90's.

good call @Ox4Eva

personally Id like there to be an 'official' song that is unique to OUFC ( Man City have Blue Moon, Bindippers - youll never walk alone, Brum- keep right on to the end of the road , Gass - (goodnight) Irene etc etc) .... since the ol slippery era, sweet caroline ( which is used by how many other clubs???) get aired after a home win..... ( Ive never liked it myself- the lyrics dont flow that well do they?)

London Road end faves from the late 60s - mid 70s, Those Were The Days ( by, & a hit single for both, Mary Hopkins & South Oxon resident n Eurovision song contest winner Sandi Shaw) and When Youre Smiling are my top contenders ....and theyd be unique to Oxford United ....both songs have easy to remember lyrics too

I have been like a stuck record, pardon the pun.. But we really do need a song that everyone can sing as you mentioned, check out Sheff Utd fans song, superb!

Sweet Caroline is vomit enducing to be honest, the point of have our own 'song' is for people to sing it and not just go 'da da da' FFS....

I know this is probably never going to get anywhere but somebody somewhere ought to get in contact with Gaz Coombes and ask him (pretty please) if he could pencil in some easy to know oufc words (supplied to him) to say supergrass's song 'alright' or something similar? Maybe something like this could become a proper type of anthem kept pretty simple. This way no one else should nick it being as they are from Oxford/Oxfordshire! This just a suggestion-as like many on this forum we have unfortunately lacked for many years in this department.

Radiohead, the foals, Mr Big (Romeo) etc may have a catchy tune as well amongst their repertoire we could adapt?

The problem out there is anyone could come up with words to a very catchy song (classis or otherwise) but other clubs can readapt these to suit their club and there goes the churning process. Whereas a Oxford/Oxfordshire band's adapted song would be ours!

As a one liner ditty with a clever snob infested twist-the one I used to like and never used since we left the Manor was 'we are the famous the famous Oxford' clap clap clap clap repeat again. Maybe as a starter for ten (Bamber Gascoigne) this could be added to our very limited list?

Any type of anthem should be easy to remember and it's intention is to send the shivers down ones back because the anthem is totally ours! And for ol' geezers like me to be able to say all the wrong words to the song/chant without looking too stupid so I can blame it on my dentures when doing so.

Coyy's.

If we are looking for an Oxfordshire anthem, then it has to be either 'Step Into My World' by Hurricane #1 or 'OX4' by Ride (and the Ride boys are no strangers to the Kassam Stadium)

the most 'sucessful' club songs remain unchanged / undoctored

Build a bonfire, build a bonfire.
Put Swindon on the top.
Put Reading in the middle.
And burn the f*cking lot.

Something like that?

Yes that sounds like it, I have a terrible memory

But he is not a U's fan, from memory he claimed to be Man U so obviously does not care about our club?

Get Nick Cope on it he's a master of short catchy songs.

I’ll not have a word against him. Genuinely a pleasure to listen to his music with the girls and he’s lots of fun live. Would really recommend him to anyone with young kids - plus his stuff is on Spotify.

still reckon an old London road end Favourite (as mentioned above) would catch on with the vast majority of the supporters .... as in most in North, East, South (upper and lower )

Sandi Shaw released her version of Those were the days (my friend) before Mary Hopkins released hers
Sandi is a resident of South Oxon, the powers that be at OUFC conceivably could get her along to 'launch' it
IF 'Those were the days' were to be adopted too

Mark Cope (as Ninestone Cowboy) had some very clever lyrics to his songs.... especially Jesus H Christ !

lets not forget Sir Bald Diddley ( the Benson beachboy) in various pseudonyms, is seriously prolific and, whats more hes 100% OUFC supporter too

Just need some exiles who turn up once a season to tell us what was being sung and that it was much better when they were at games.

All of these songs have been sung this season, 2 or 3 of them are virtually every game home and away....

Us old ones obviously cannot hear them, maybe you need to read my original post again.
