Fan's View 19/20 - Rochdale at home

Been waiting all day for you to post, but here you are eventually! Thought with the extra hour you’d be done by lunchtim! A thoroughly good read as usual, agree with all you sa. Keep it up, please.

As an aside, I grew up in the Watneys red barrel and double diamond days, so have never been into beer, just never got it. As for these days, if I consumed as much as you appear to before a game I’d spend most of the time in the totalily disgusting ssl toilets and probably the rest of the day/night as well!

Thanks, Paul. I’m as optimistic as you but there are two small clouds in my otherwise blue sky: Cam makes us tick and we are not quite the same team without him. The news on his injury is worrying; Shandon will have to step up to the mark. The second is Gorrin; I think we’ll miss him when he’s suspended. Those two players, along with Fosu, are essential to our success as it is. Interesting times.

Read your FV with interest and yes sir-ree it sums up things pretty accurately. Within your take on yesterday's wholesome match the only things that's missing is as you say is the bloody poster's in the city centre club shop promoting the club's forthcoming matches! This particular irksome/tiresome ask to the club to be rectified for this current season and of the season before has been to a close associate of mine a very frustrating time.

This associate has spoken on several occasions about this to various club shop managers and as recently as the 15th of August this year by way of an email to Mr McWilliams to look into this. The response was immediate and it was said it would be bought up at a meeting later that week. My associate did then see a very cheap A4 poster appear with the next three home games (it's was a start albeit a cheapish start) on but it obviously hasn't from your findings been continued. This to my associate who has time and again spoken to club staff about this 'missing trick' is of course a let down once again. In anyone's language what is the cost of producing a once monthly A3 size poster with a proper header on advertising the next 3/4 home games on - a tenner tops? I am in the city centre on business tomorrow so I could possibly call in and take this up again with the club shop employee tomorrow...but hold on it's not open on a Monday is it - and this my fellow fans is just 48 hours on from another important game for the club. You just couldn't make this up.

Really glad it is not just me that gets so annoyed about this.

I too grew up in the Watneys Red Barrel, Double Diamond and Ben Truman days which is possible why I like real ale so much. The choice of styles and number of small and independent breweries available now could not have been even dreamed of back then. There is absolutely no comparison between what was on offer then and now.
For the record I don't consume anywhere near as much beer as some people before a game. I do still like to appreciate what's going on. Although with some of the rubbish we've had to put up with over the years (lots of) beer can do nothing but help.

Enjoyable read as always.

I think not just the variety and choice of real ale has improved beyond all recognition, but also the the quality too on the whole. Or at least landlords and pubs are better informed in the process of keeping a ‘good pint’

I grew up on Hooky ales in the 70s & 80s, and back then it could vary tremendously from pub to pub.

Some really good local & micro beer festivals all over the county these days too.

Good read, as always. Thanks Paul.

Am I right in thinking that the entrance to the covered market shop is via a barbers? Gives a new slant on "Something for the weekend, sir?"

Really don't see the point in having a shop which is not open, has little stock and, apparently, little interest in promoting the club. Then again, the main club shop is tucked away behind the cinema/Frankie & Benny restaurant. Something else which will need to change with the relocation of the stadium. (we can but hope)

Yes, it is via a barbers.

But when/if Gorrin gets his card, it will only be a one game suspension. If that's while Brannagan is still injured, surely you move Mous into Gorrin's place, play Moore at the back and Shandon in for Brannagan. Irritating, but not a disaster? I agree that the length/severity of Brannagan's injury is pretty crucial though!

Thank you Paul, as always your report highlights all the most important factors surrounding the match. I agree about Robbie Hall, that was the best I've seen him play since he came back from injury, albeit only 15 mins it was good to see. The tribute to Andy / Womble was very fitting, also nice that there were a couple of pages devoted to him in the programme. I'd add that the awful weather possibly had an impact on the energy levels of the players, can't blame them for that. Looking forward to every match now. COYY!

Also, great to score from a corner after 90+ attempts this season!

Even though I was in the city centre this morning on business I still found stupid o'clock time to traipse over to the covered market (even though I knew it was closed) to see if by any million to one chance that a poster had been miraculously placed during Sunday's day of rest. Nothing. Not even written in blood by the demon barber next door.

However by winding my neck in (into a position of discomfort) I could see even from the darkness of the store a ticket printer lurking on the said unmanned counter with ticket stubs at the ready. Ready for what! Ready for what indeed.

Oxford city centre by lunchtime was a busy place with tills a jiggling. Not our club shop though. Missing many tricks.

Coyy's.
