Just read not sure if there is a thread but Haringey Borough players have walked of after their keeper was racially abuses

Apologies for the header of this thread fat fingers hopefully mods can change

Great response from the Haringey and Yeovil players, and a very principled statement from the Haringey manager.
As a veteran of Kick It Out campaigns from the early 1980s onwards I feel so depressed at the return of this racist crap. Presumably emboldened by Brexit and Trump etc.
I have always felt that things will only change for good when the players take action, and finally that seems to be happening.

Agree that it is very good that action seems to be taken and a few more abandonment and heavy punishments will hopefully help a lot.
Am I right I thinking that these are very isolated happenings? I was talking with a friend who sees a lot of football and we cant recall having heard any racist comments for years . Have we just been lucky?

Either they are isolated incidents or they have recently grabbed media interest. I don't believe the 2nd option as the media would have, quite rightly, been all over it previously. Sadly, it appears racists have been emboldened by media/politicians use of language in recent years imo and coupled with what happened in Bulgaria, i'm not in the least surprised something happened this weekend.

For me based on the brief bits I have read, the response of the teams/clubs was appropriate. If proven, as they are currently allegations, I hope the book is thrown at the perpetrators.

I actually live about 10 minutes walk from haringey and go to a handful of games a season over the years. They are a lovely club, and play some nice football for non-league.

Thankfully I have never seen anything resembling this( I didn't go to this particular game). Usually away fans are very respectful. So hopefully at least in this club this is not a common event at all.

I suspect it was one individual ( hopefully) probably surrounded by others who were acting aggressively,so possible seemed worse than what it was .
But one person is still one too many .

Surely an arrest/s will follow shortly and once outed in the press the prick/s will no doubt and thankfully be on the end of abuse themselves. Bet they won’t be laughing then, as being quite rightly labelled racist for the rest of their lives. Enjoy substantiating your vile behaviour to your friends, family, colleagues, bosses and the Police. Oh dear dear me .

No room for this at any level of football or any level of life. I find it very sad that the cretins that do this sort of thing find it funny and big. In our multi cultural city we luckily don’t see it as much as some do. I’d like to see one of these bell ends make “monkey” chants at some of my coloured mates, they wouldn’t last two minutes!

Yeovil Town don't, as far as I can ascertain, have a history of having a racist element in their fan base?

Speculatively, Id guess that whoever was responsible for what eventually resulted in the cup tie being abandoned
( and probable implications for Yeovil Town FC? ) were vague acquaintances of a/a few Yeovil Town supporters, who rarely, if ever, go to live games, tagging along for an awayday, including on the beer

Ive no doubt that the individual(s) responsible will be outed by genuine Yeovil Town supporters, and as @Sir Winston said above, will face the inevitable consequences of their actions.

I agree with @Shropshire U that the ongoing Brexit debacle along with Red Top 'papers rhetoric, and Tangoman Trump's many outrageous proclamations may well be contributory factors in 'validating' extreme views being expressed as 'acceptable' by some (a small few), which in reality they are not.

More ( alleged- as yet unproven) racism claims from yesterday this time in the Championship, at Kenilworth road

Some of our fans racially abused Bristol Rovers players in back to back seasons when we played them at their gaff - once towards Ellis Harrison in 16/17 and once towards Marc Bola in 17/18 - and on both occasions our fans did nothing but chuckle or ignore them, and Rovers stewards refused to get involved when it was reported to them. I made a complaint on both occasions and was roundly ignored.

One thing I haven't seen covered is how many Yeovil fans were involved in the abuse. Was it a lot, or a handful or perhaps one sad individual?
I believe it was one or a small handful.
It sounded like the vast majority of Yoevil fans were well behaved and appalled at what happened ( as would be expected)
