A Nicer, Gentler Form Of Politics?

Don't Like Rees-Moggs' politics, don't like some of his personal views, but I'd rather spend ten minutes in his company discussing them than a single second in the company of immature twats who attend political meetings in balaclavas and dark glasses to incoherently shout the odds.

That’s been the general view of most. Even Labour die hards like Angela Rayner and Stella Creasey have spoken out in support of JRM who has acted with nothing but grace and decorum both during and after the fracas.

There’s an irony among people of that mob’s ilk. They claim they’re arguing against ‘extremism’ (I know JRM is right wing but extremist?!) and their solution is to silence him or deny him a platform. Wasn’t one of the major facets of Nazisim and fascism the shutting down of political opinions that challenged their rule? ...

Corbyn’s ‘a nicer, gentler form of politics’ is becoming John Major’s ‘back to basics’ I suspect they both wish they’d never said it, & will continually used against/mock them. Probably fairly naive from both of them.

It looks as if Rees-Mogg could be the next Tory leader, now that would be interesting.

Mogg, Boris & Goves backed by the right wing press.

Corbyn, McDonald & Abbott backed by Militant/momentum.

The EDL of the left. Much more hair, much more green tea, but the same level of intellect.

I thought Moggy did well there to both defend himself and not get intimidated by those idiots. Why have the far left become such a nasty parody of the far right in the past couple of years? If you are willing to protest like that, at least be willing to show your face and be an adult with the consequences. Nothing but classless and gutless bully boys looking to silence anyone that opposes them - the same feeling I have for the far right too. Too many soy lattes for that lot!

And they probably picked on the wrong person to do that too. JRM, for his peculiarities, is a very calm and precise person and won't give the reaction they were looking for.

So the 'far left' are shouting at political meetings. The far right are trying to murder politicians and muslims. Easy choice for me

A nasty parody? The far left killed far more than the far right, communism was the greatest evil that this planet has ever seen, it failed in every country and repressed billions and murdered hundreds of millions.

The Beresford way to respond to JRM politics is to reason with him and argue. I don’t like him either, but the rabble are only acting against those who oppose him.

I think maybe GB was thinking of the far left / far right in modern terms, rather than historical. I would doubt many of the rabble who confronted Rees-Mogg were adherents of Marxism or Bolshevism or Stalinism or Maoism. If they actually have any ideals, more likely to be based on modern socialism. (But MOST likely to be based on a desire to shout a lot .... )
That's four words they couldn't even spell!

Yup. Those kids may know of Marx as a vague concept from school, but I highly doubt you'd be able to have a conversation with them about any of the above. They seem solely focused on calling people fascists and Nazis and no platforming people they perceive as such.

It seems it's not the first time JRM has taken the tack with protestors of let's have a conversation about your points and not let them just carry on shouting and intimidating people.

Had they taken up the offer for a debate JRM would have shredded them, awesome intellect & very decent person irrespective of his personal beliefs on some subjects, but nobody is perfect.

Left wing fascists who like to try and bully and shout down those who they disagree and generally call anyone with a different view a racist!

Wonder how many of them actually come a middle class money background and learnt their form of politics amongst the university handwringers and champagne socialists..

Unfortunately, both extremes of the political spectrum have taken to shouting down and giving derogatory labels to those who oppose them. It has made sensible political discourse in this country difficult whether on social media or at a national level.

Agreed, I used to enjoy some political jousting but it's not worth the hassle a lot of the time. Social media has also given morons of whatever political ilk a platform to shout others down!

Nature abhors a vacuum. Don’t let the bullies win. Keep on politically jousting!

State your views clearly and with respect for your opponent ,don’t say a thing on social media you wouldn’t say to your opponent directly to his or her face and try and keep a sense of humour.

I’m standing for council elections , have started canvassing recently and there have been a few extreme views expressed. Most voters are nearly all pleasant and engaged however.

I was told I was ‘lower than vermin’ by one charmer the other day. You just have to suck it up. Although as I left his company I said , ‘so I’ll put you down as a don’t know shall I’ ?
