Potential New Ground

A few years ago we could have been looking at a new build project taking years to come to fruition, but the planning world has changed, land that was off limits is now far more accessible and local authorities have a greater understanding of the need to support local development.

In addition, we have a team involved who are experts at these kind of projects and have the finances needed to make it happen. We are not going to be in a situation like with the Kassam where builders are going off site for months at a time or shortcuts made.

My understanding is that we are far closer to being able to announce something than many people realise, and that once we do then things will happen very quickly. I will go as far to say that I would put a huge amount of money on the fact that we will be in our new home long before we have to worry about the lease running out.
Could the words 'new home' mean the Kassam but owned by us or are you indicating a move away is in the cards?

Couple years minimum to get planning permission. That brings us to 2021. That then gives us only 5 years to finish building works before our 2026 lease expiration deadline. Very optimistic to say it’ll be well done before the lease runs out...

Planning permission can and will be much quicker, and unless they're building it with lego then 5 years is more than long enough! Spurs new ground was knocked up in a little over 3 years!

Yep fair enough. May have over estimated build time. But the fact that the site we will want to build on will be on green belt, it’ll make our lives hard to get planning permission. To build on green belt you need ‘special circumstances’ and the fact we already inhabit an adequate ground isn’t going to help our argument! Plans also need to be drawn up if they haven’t already (?). There a certainly more steps to building a new stadium that initially meets the eye

You forget it’s the local authority who approve planning permission, let’s say for instance it’s Stratfield brake sports ground, that’s Cherwell council I can’t see them approving them an appeal after a long consultation period again not approved now that could well be 2022/3 so that’s the problem we have.
Another council taking in a sports stadia with an average 6/7 k on match day and a lot more for bigger games, I can’t see apart from a couple of local pubs making much money so the economy won’t improve.

The problem is no one will want a 15-20 thousand all seater stadium on their doorstep.

I’m afraid you post sounds to easy and it’s not.

Not sure if you’re old enough to remember Maxwells efforts to find us a new ground and that was an ongoing project for years.

It may well be but there will still be problems. You just can’t go and say to the local authority this is our plan can you approve. Local people will contest the planning application and if it’s approved the locals will appeal and the government will get involved this will cause inevitable delays that if he t wins approval then there is the build, yes it could be up and running by 2026 but I can’t see being that easy.

That will be the reason as to why should we get a new ground and the fact it’s still only 20 years old

If we do end up at a new stadium with a better deal for the club, let's just hope they build a pub next to it too! "The Ox and Tiger" would have a great ring to it for a Spoons... Lol

You little tease ??

I understand that Firoka paid the cost of the new pitch. Sure I heard this on Radox.

Just wondering, but could dear old Uncle Firoz be joining the board?

Everyone has tried to beat him and failed miserably maybe the new owners are taking a different approach.Work with him invite him on the board, pay less rent ,maybe get the stadium completed.

As I say just wondering
