Will never forget that game, was in the Osler that season.

Those fences as well ?

Fantastic game, made all the better by getting John Aldridge's signature before the match.

I had played for the Oxford juniors against Ipswich Juniors before the game and I think we had lunch in the Manor club. As we were being taken to our seats for the match, I saw John walking behind the London Road stand, through a gate in the wall and I shouted him over.
As he signed my scrap of paper I actually said to him, "Hat-trick today, John".

Bit like the Leeds and Pompey games, unforgettable.
agreed .... what a game that was ... that match would be in my top ten memories of matches at the Manor ( as are the Leeds & Pompey ones, as mentioned by @Cass63 .... along with Blackburn in the FA Cup '64, Man U 2nd replay league cup aka Bald Eagle V Mr Bojangles )

The Blackburn game was before my time, but rest of them I remember well. I'd add the Shrewsbury game we won 1-0 (Langan) as its the most nervous I've been at a home game, the Swindon 5-3 game, and the 1-1 with Chelsea in the cup when they had the late scandalous penalty. Good Times.

I was also there (Beech Rd). The atmosphere was indeed extraordinary. However, looking back, some of the marking (esp. for Ipswich's first) was absolutely shocking!

And we will be playing them in the League next season...... love Portman Road, one of the few "old" grounds to survive! ?

That was in an era when we believed!!! Even when 3-0 down we KNEW we would win. It's hard to explain that belief to people who weren't around then.
roared on by the London road end from 3-0 down to a 4-3 win .... yep , those were the days (my friend)

Portman Road is on my radar this year. Yet to visit and keep trying to tick off new grounds. Lincoln, Tranmere, Rotherham and Doncaster also keen on this season for the same reason.
