National News Police want extra £ for policing football

Your link doesn't work, Sarge.

I hope they are also demanding money from Pubs, bars etc for the trouble in town centres etc and Shops for when they require attendance for shoplifting.

Hardly a shock considering the Tories have been in power for so long. They need funds from somewhere.

I think the Police are excessive in the way they Police football. I don’t think anybody will argue that derby games and games like Millwall need to be Policed appropriately, however when there were so many resources for games where there is just a big crowd needs to be looked at. I use the example against Sunderland this year. Excessive Policing for no justifiable reason. Until the Police get their house in order with regards appropriate resourcing it would be remiss to give them extra powers to fund this.
Police have a tendency to treat all football fans as if they are hooligans. I firmly believe this an area they could hugely improve on.

Charlton at home was ridiculous. The changed kick off time coupled with Police horses and loads of Coppers standing around. I appreciate you don't want the Police having to do anything, but there were loads at this game doing nothing.

The number of football teams hasn’t changed in the country, attendances are roughly the same they have been for the last 5 years, if not down due to the amount of TV games. The sport is more family orientated than ever before.

All these things work in the police’s favour so maybe they should look at their budgeting departments if they are spending too much money on football matches.

The police are still policing football like its the 1970`s.... maybe our liaison officer would like to comment?
After the Charlton farce I reckon he`s still counting the overtime income! @PC956S ?
Rarely get OT from football, as that’s my job.

Like "liaison" ? :rolleyes::rolleyes:

So why was the time changed for no apparent reason? I`m fairly sure you could justify that without divulging the inevitable "intelligence" methodology...

I know that in some London Boroughs businesses pay the council's enforcement department to patrol, deal with anti-social behaviour and the like. They have a close relationship with the police and it seems to work well enough.

Not sure what you mean with the Like “liaison“ and then the humorous faces? A sarcastic dig because I’m not liaising during down time in the season? I am allowed time away you know. Busy start to the summer assisting colleagues in Hampshire with Trump etc and d-day. I’m an ops planner as well as a DFO.
Who said it was changed for no apparent reason? It was changed for a reason after the club and the police requested it. It has to be joint.

I don't usually join in these discussions, but come on Simon. You can't say "it was changed for a reason" and not divulge that reason!

Either answer the question and divulge the reason, or say that you can't tell us why. This doesn't do you any favours being so cloak and dagger you know. If the people above you won't let you tell us why it was bought forward, I'm sure people on here would understand.

But having said that, I'm now very curious as to why this game was deemed worthy of moving forward?

On these 'joint' decisions, it would be interesting to know which of the two parties initiates the discussion...

Not that they will admit it but it's usually the police that want a game moved as the club knows it can effect ticket sales.

It might be "down time" but we are still supporters of Oxford United and you remain our liaison officer.
It doesn`t "go away" because the season is over.
The questions & rebuttals about the kick off amendment have been posted both before, during & after the event that saw supporters (customers if you like) inconvenienced by a decision to change the KO time and an excessive police presence that was apparently unnecessary (nice big bill for someone).
Do we not deserve a straight answer to the reasoning behind the decision?
