Glasgow Rangers friendly

I thought rangers went bust due to financial indiscretions and a new club was reincarnated pretending to be rangers. I also heard their fans are bigoted and spit on the away fans and throw urine at them during the game. I’d like to know what the friendly fan of rangers thinks about that?

If Rangers and Celtic were such massive clubs then the SPL would have no trouble getting massive TV deals in the UK and abroad? Strange that a league with two f the biggest clubs in the world struggles.
TBF both teams have massive fan bases, far in excess of most premiership clubs. The issue is the standard of the rest of the league, I’ve watched Celtic on dozens of occasions and honestly the Scottish premier sides are bottom championship to top league one standard at best.
Whilst Celtic and them have huge fan bases they can’t attract seriously good players as the standard is poor, that in turn turns off commercial opportunities! What I would say is that if either ever played in England they would quickly reach the premiership due to the sheer size and resources they could draw upon.
Look at their attendances for “friendlies” at English clubs, support wise absolutely massive, standard wise very very poor - I would expect a relatively even match at Ibrox

Derby, Leeds, Forest, Middlesbrough, Sheff Wednesday, Stoke and Sunderland all have decent sized fan bases but struggle to get to the premier league.
The standard of the Scottish top league is top half league 1 at best. Look at the players who come down to even league 2 clubs and struggle.

I almost want the EFL to let Rangers and Celtic into the football league just for a season just to stop this stupid debate.

Unfortunately for Celtic and AFC Rangers the number of fans you have don’t make you a good footballing side.

Only have urine and spit for you, everyone else will be fine.

The holding company went bust, new club shite is oneupmanship used by fans of celtic, Aberdeen etc. Same club according to sfa, spfl, UEFA etc still if some blokes off internet forum say different that's good enough for me.
Bigots on both sides of old firm that's a West of Scotland problem.
Have you any evidence about spitting or P**s as first I've heard?
Perhaps the friendly celtic fan on here can comment or maybe even knows the words to the Lee Rigby song that's sung by their fans or explain why 66 is sprayed about Glasgow?

Celtic and them have far greater number of supporters than the clubs you mention, and I agree the size of your support doesn’t guarantee success but it helps. If they joined EFL Celtic would have 60k at every home game, conservatively that’s £2m a game ticket sales, add in the additional commercial and TV revenue and they’re with the big boys in terms of income - much much more than the clubs you’ve quoted.

In terms of one season, of course they’d struggle - they’d both have to buy numerous players and that doesn’t happen overnight but both play in Europe and play at a higher standard than league one, with the money they would get within three years they would be mid table premiership clubs

It is a new company, that is an irrefutable fact.

Of course there’s bigots in both sides, don’t believe anyone has said any differently! Yes I know the words, and yes it’s reprehensible and no defence at all - but you’re view is very one sided with objectivity at all, you straight away start attacking Celtic when your team is mentioned?

It can be argued that being the big fish in their small pond has created both their success and their limitations.

They will never be permitted to join the English leagues. The stakes around FIFA’s recognition of separate football associations for each home nation are too high for it ever to be allowed.

Arsenal have 60k every week, have supporters throughout the globe and are one of world footballs most recognised clubs. They’re also no longer a club that can compete for the league title. Size does not guarantee anything, particularly in a world where PSG, Chelsea and Man City can artificially change the order of things through non-earned revenues.

The bigotry thing always get brought up but it's not as black and white as people think. Many celtic fans are actually Protestant and same goes with plenty of RC Gers fans.

That seems to happen mostly if marriages are mixed where kids take on one parents religion and the other parents team. However if your RC up here you tend to go to a RC school and everyone else to non doms. My lad goes to a non dom and very few celtic fans there.

Lets face it them Jocks have hated us since before Culloden, that was just the cherry on the cake. Why they have to fight amongst themselves over some make believe "friend" is beyond me.

That was not an English v Scottish battle!

Its so easy....................... ???

Jacobite (an army consisting mostly of Scottish clansmen ) vs the Hanoverian/Government (16 battalions ....4 of which were Scots, 1 Irish so 12 English)..... semantics but basically English vs Scots...

Had a lovely stay in Nairn a few years ago, Culloden is a very well run visitors centre and museum.

it's fine saying they are in Europe each years but You can almost gauge the standard by the sides they regularly lose too in Europe

If they were in the premier league they would easily attract players that are already with other clubs that are already in the league unless you seriously think players are not there for the "Money"

Any foreign team with big crowds could do well in the premier league given the funding they would have. However with Brexit it’s even less likely they would be admitted. Scotland will probably become independent

If Rangers and Celtic join the premier league they will get more money, that’s obvious, but the premier league has gotten these huge deals without two sides from Glasgow, whereas no broadcaster has been interested in the SPL enough to offer a huge deal despite the supposed hugeness of it’s big two.

They are big in Scotland (a tiny market), and among Scottish and Irish ex pats around the world, but that is another small market. The premier league, and its big clubs, is big in Asia, Africa etc, absolutely huge markets.

It’s not the 80s any more, talks of big crowds are pointless in this era, the world is bigger than a few sectarian bigots scattered around in shitty bars.

The truth is Rangers and Celtic need the premier league desperately but the premier league has no need of them.

Why do Welsh teams play in the English Football league/Premiership but it appears Celtic and Rangers are NOT allowed to?

Why do Welsh teams play in the English Football league/Premiership but it appears Celtic and Rangers are NOT allowed to?

Because historically they did and there was no national Welsh league structure even though they had their own FA. The National league is a relatively recent development in Wales and the Welsh FA tried forcing non league clubs into it such as Colwyn Bay and the reformed Newport County* but not Swansea, Wrexham and Cardiff (they had the resources to legally fight the Welsh FA).

Scotland has always had its own standalone league structure and the Scottish clubs have never historically played in England+, or wanted to until the PL money rolled in.

FIFA and UEFA have accepted the historical situation but not new developments except Gretna which switched from England to Scotland as it was for practical purposes (think Berwick) as it was right on the border.

* The reformed Newport played in England (at Moreton iirc) at the start when they joined the Hellenic Lg as they wouldn't sanction them playing in Newport. Eventually the Welsh FA backed down.

+ With the exception of Carlisle obviously. ;)
