I doubt you yourself are outstanding at your job

I’ve not been released from my job, so I must be doing something right.

At the end of the day, he’s been very poor for us. Did well in Ireland against village teams. But could do nothing here in League One. Not good enough for us, and where we want to go. We can’t carry passengers, so best to get rid!

Also didn’t help that he came from the SCUM!

He will no doubt get a contract from another club, and doesn’t have to worry about money.

I said he’s shite, because that’s my honest view. If that’s different to others fine.

Ooooh my...just underlined and exampled my point in just a few characters...best of luck and one day when you have a down turn in performance or luck in whatever you do karma will kick in.

Think you are missing the point...the comments are not about more or less and i havent seen anyone on here mocking Fiacres departure or any of the others and if i had i would have replied in the same manner

No, I’m not missing my own point!

As I’ve said, I’m more than respectful about Jon Obika and his departure, and am not one of those “mocking” him.

I am merely saying his injury is now null (Paul Gascoigne played 15 more years and >30 times for England after surgery that is 30 years more archaic than we do now!), and the reason for his departure is simply his footballing ability!

He is also most privileged to have been enabled to undertake a career that all of us would have given our eye-teeth to be involved in, and he isn’t owed a living by any of us.

So; respect for his suffering, yes; because we are civilised human beings. But also perspective, because; he’ll be fine! He won’t starve! And he’ll probably sign a 5-year contract with Salford City next week!

Yes he’s well off, good looking, and well liked and if he gets desperate he can be a personal trainer or whatever. Probably doesn’t have a mortgage to pay. But for him it will be about pride and a sense of achievement. He wasn’t a terrible player but unfortunately was out of his depth in League 1.

I thought that Obika looked decent when he first came in but then with injuries and above all a complete loss of confidence it all unraveled. It is best for everyone that he moves on but people should remember that he was wearing our shirt when he got a serious injury and maybe just wish him all the best instead of slagging him off.

I seem to remember the Scummers were laughing their heads off when he signed for us, due to his continual injuries and being unavailable for selection. Sick note Obika they called him.

Good post.

I didn't rate O'Bika and knew he wouldn't be offered a new deal but the man may have a family and a mortgage it's his living not with uas but definitely with some one. My daughter and her friend went in to Tesco express before picking the kids up and he was in there and he was very polite and respectful, so let this man be let him move and that be the end of it.
A little sad that he's had to get a job at Tescos. Shelf stacking? At least he can reach the top shelves without a step ladder.

Still managed 90 odd league games for them in 3 seasons though.

A mate who is a Spurs season ticket holder once told me big John was rated as highly as Harry Kane when he was a Youth.
Football is a 'funny old game' as Jimmy Greaves used to say!!

McMahon will look to be offloaded in the summer then...looking for clubs up north.

McMahon should do the decent thing and agree to be released by mutual consent. He’s the one who cannot settle in the area so why should we potentially have to pay him off.

Why should he? And more to the point, would you if you had no alternative employment? The decent thing is to honour his contract, and assist him to move should he need it.

Yes I would and indeed have done. I resigned from a job with no job to go to as I hated working in London and being away from the family. The decent thing is to honour his contract? He hasn’t as he wanted to move back north.

How has he not honoured his contract? Did he refuse to turn up and work? Did he give less than he could? And as stated in the article on the OM site, there are also personal reasons which complicated matters. Both parties entered into the contract in good faith, and as long as he continues to work as he should then fair enough.

IMO anyway, that is.

I wasn’t a big fan of him as a player, I thought he was quite poor for a right back. Good at set pieces mind.

We showed compassion, because a family member passed away, and then he found it difficult being away from family, and ultimately wanted to move back nearer to home. We helped him out getting him a loan move to Scunthorpe, and now he needs to be paid off, and have his contract terminated. He won’t just say forget the rest of my contract, and don’t want paying! He will find a club up north no doubt, and will be happy.

I would think it was fairly obvious. He wanted to move back north for family reasons and we allowed him to do so.
Yes he continued to train/play but that’s not the point.
He’s moving because he wants to not the other way around so my view is that the contract could be terminated by mutual consent.
I’d by mystified if we had to pay him off for a decision he has made.

I get where you are coming from but Football seems to be a little odd.
Kitson wanted to retire but allegedly negotiated a pay off from IL.
