decent T20 win at Cardiff for England... achieved without a number of big hitters from the middle order too
:giggle:
Morgan's winning 6 in the last over was a bit good

ODI series next

Archer looks to be a very tidy player on the evidence of the last 2 games. I can see why the ECB want him playing and some players aren't happy getting qualified for England.

For a scratch team, they did very well.

England seem to have quite a lit of strength in depth in white ball cricket.
Archer should be in the final squad I reckon. Really useful to have that extra pace and Engkand always seem to have 6 to 7 bowling options
Roll on the World Cup

Decent fast bowler ....and decent fielder, as well as being able to hit the target with a split second throw, that run out was rather spectacular :sneaky:

A cracking game it seems today. Buttler scored the 2nd quickest hundred for England and a close ending. What more can you ask for? Pakistan look a decent team, but missing the leg spinner to give their attack the final bite.

Archer sat out but has to be in the squad for the WC. The lad has the extra 1% that will make this team harder to beat

Willey put in a great performance, if anyone is under threat by Archer then it is him. His 3 overs at the end changed the match, we were on course to lose that.

Buttler's innings was fantastic. Effortless batting (so it looked)
Archer has to ge in the team. Willey showed his strengths today.
A really difficult decision for the selectors in who they leave out of the 15 plus Morgan in who he picks in the games (I assume that the seamers playing will depend on the conditions in each game plus form)

My guess is either Woakes or Wood will be the one to miss out. Harsh, but I think Archer really offers something extra to the team.

Archer looks to have some serious promise and potential

Archer's bowling spell in the first game got a lot of people's attention with the ease of which the speed went up. You'd fancy him as an outsider for the Ashes if he has a good WC.

It is highly unlikely that Wood will be fit for the whole Ashes series in which case Archer surely must come into contention.

And perhaps Archer's fitness will ultimately make him a safer, if less experienced, bet. Wood has a lot going for him, but he can never stay fit.

It's nice for Engkamd to have a choice.
I wonder whether both will play ay different times in.the Ashes series.

I may have missed something here......but after Hales' downfall, do we actually need to drop someone else from the World Cup squad? Could we not just add Archer as an extra bowler?

I mean we're pretty clearly going to go with Roy, Bairstow, Root, Morgan, Buttler, Stokes, Ali as our top seven plus Rashid and three quicks.

Denly is there as backup in case one of the batsmen gets injured, or is so woefully out of form that they need dropping.

Why not take all of Curran, Willey, Wood, Woakes, Plunkett & Archer? There's a lot of different styles of fast bowling there. Gives us multiple options, depending on the conditions at hand; plus fast bowlers are much more likely to get niggles or injuries.

I'm not sure having James Vince or A.N.Other in the squad to carry drinks for a month and a half is going to do much good.

How many are in the squad? 15?

Yes. We named a wider squad of 17 - but then canned Hales, and I'm assuming Jordan isn't getting in (because he's not really part of the conversation at this point).

I would imagine Tony that they dont trust Denly to take the place of say Roy/ Bairstow.
He is more in as an all rounder with his leg spin (although it doesn't look as if that is good enough)

Fair point.

But frankly I can't see that his leg spin is enough to warrant a squad place if they don't think his batting is up to snuff.

If (heaven forbid) one of Roy or Bairstow did go down, then there's not another Englishman out there who can replace what they do (today's game being a case in point!) except Alex Hales.....and, well......

If they don't want Denly to open, they'd have to rearrange - promote Root or possibly Moeen to open, and add Denly to the middle order.

And if they don't think Denly's even good enough to do that as a batsman, then he shouldn't be in the squad and should be replaced by someone else in whom they have more confidence.

Well that was a stroll in the park [emoji50]
