Hi all,

Great to be given our own section on the YF! Thank you for having us!

For those of you who don’t know Oxford United has its own registered charity: Oxford United in the Community. We’ve been given this section to let you know a bit about us and to update on all sorts of stuff going forward, as we celebrate our 30th anniversary!

We have six F/T coaches and a great Board, which includes our old friends Jeremy Faulkner and Greig Box Turnbull & several other great local people from the world of business and politics, including Oxfordshire County Council Leader Ian Hudspeth, and Matt Everett from OUFC. All OUFC fans.

OUITC uses the power of football to inspire and empower people to be the best they can be. We run 40 football related community coaching sessions in various schools every week in Oxfordshire. OUITC has helped thousands of people over the years. It was formed in 1988 by Malcolm Elias and Rosie took over when he retired from playing in the early 90’s. We’re sure many of you on here will have enjoyed an OUITC coaching session at some point if you went to school locally!

Since 1988 we’ve gone from strength to strength and 11 years ago became a charity. We feel fortunate to be able to help others and it’s fantastic to see the difference our sessions can make to youngsters. Often it gives them a sense of purpose and also we teach them various life skills way over and above football coaching.

We are incredibly proud to represent Oxford United and ensure we are at the heart of the community and were also thrilled James Constable agreed to become a Patron recently.

OUITC also runs the popular Manor Club for the over 50’s, to help bring the older community together and tackle isolation. We also run a therapeutic intervention sports programme called Sport and Thought.

We’re doing OK – but there’s so much more we can do! Our 30th anniversary is a great opportunity for us to celebrate Oxford United in the Community and the difference we make and use it as a spring board for us to raise our profile and fund-raise to enable us to help more people and develop out output and partnerships.

We launched our Dream Big Appeal at Windmill School in Headington this week – the school where the very first community session was held 30 years ago. Rosie told us that in the 80’s the first team also often trained on the school playing field as well! We held a session at the school and dozens and dozens of children took part – it was great to see several were kitted out in OUFC kits.

The Dream Big Appeal is a Just Giving campaign to help us raise some funds to enable us to take the charity up a few notches and do more in our community. Story here: https://www.oufc.co.uk/news/2019/march/ouitc-30/

If you can help and donate what you can afford it would be much appreciated! https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/OUITC30YEARS

Thanks for taking the time to read this, there will be plenty going on across the year – so we’ll be in touch!

Best wishes, all at OUITC.

Hi @OUFCcommunity .... great work youre doing.... just the one suggestion re donations. IF you had a paypal donation option (theres a friends & family/ gift option= NO fees!) It would be easier for more people to donate.
Personally I'm very wary of donating via justgiving having had card details hacked on two seperate occasions. Paypal is the safest and most secure way to instantly transfer money and its istantantly accessible, unlike justgiving

Worth considering a paypal option Id think?

Hi Sarge - thanks for taking the time to reply. We'll look into a Paypal option as well. We're doing a bucket collection tomorrow as well as part of Community Day and our anniversary celebration - so some spare change would be awesome from people who don't use Just Giving! COYY!
